I am really enjoying Opie joining the show on fridays now. I would say he is a Shane Battier out there. While he is not the point guard he is from 6-12, he is that wing that will distribute the ball and make plays that may not show in the stat sheet but still are big.
It was enjoyable to hear him genuinely laugh at the Big A vs. Fez bit and throw in a few Big aaaaaaaaa's.
8 months from now when Jill divorces Anthony thus ruining him, I know I would enjoy the Fez Ron Opie show.

He sounds so much more relaxed when the burden of running the ship is taken off of him. And when the pressure comes off, the man gets funnier.

Opie has sounded better than ever recently. On O&A he takes charge a lot more often and has been really funny.
His appearances on R&F have also been great - and you are right, he sounds really relaxed. It turns into a fun hang.

Opie has always been the engine that runs O and A. It is really a pleasure to hear him in a secondary role. He seems more genuine. He often sounds like he is moving the show forward on O and A but on Ron and Fez, he can react off of Ronny B.
I fear the cupcake wars of Long Island. I hope that Opie licences the Ron Bennington cupcake.

I have become a more avid Opie fan of late... and his recent visits to the Ron and Fez show have only solidified this.

Opie himself is a much funnier, wittier radio personality today than he was on WNEW.
During WNEW everyone used to say "why is opie on the show, only anthony is funny". Today you never hear anyone say that arguement

please, you could hear people saying that even a few months ago. it's not an argument i agreed with, but it was (and probably is) still out there.

Change every "Opie" in this thread to "Anthony" and you have a thread about how great Anthony is filling in on R&F 5 years ago

Yeah, but Anthony is now wrapped up in other things and seems to be less vocal during the show. He used to run every interview, provide the lion's share of commentary, and be the one that everybody else played off of. Now things are a lot more balanced, letting Opie and Jimmy really shine.
And this comment isn't a slam on Anthony - I think the show has gotten a lot better with the new balance they have struck.

I agree that Opie is gold when he's in with Ron and Fez; I think it's partially because he's not running the show and also because he doesn't sit back and let Anthony and Jimmy make the funny. Even during the AFRO show's he isn't as vocal, he seems more comfortable when he's in with Ron and Fez.
But that just speaks to the greatness of Ron.... and that he doesn't have to worry every minute about ratings.

i think all 4 of the main stars are great when they guest on the other team's show. they all just get to relax and have fun and not have to be "the man." fez even does the fez voice!

Yeah, Opie's great. For the "straight man" role he's supposed to be playing, he really has been killing it. The best part of him on Ron and Fez though, is his fandom. You can tell he just really digs the show. He's a great addition.
BTW, whoever came up with F.R.O. Down Fridays is a genius.

Opie has been super funny lately. Maybe it's all that acupuncture he's been doing. He's more relaxed and less bitter.

Ok I'll admit that I dig the way O and A worship Ronnie B, but why shouldnt they, he's brilliant. Gotta disagree with Op though. While I like the dude, he kinda pisses me off when he constantly has to point out his jokes. He lands like 1 outta 5. I know thats his gig and that the unpredictable, say anything, smash everything guy is him, but if your comparing his wit to that of Anthony or Lil Jimmy, he's way outta their league. Cant you guys kinda sense when Ant and Jimbo almost seem annoyed with him? Or is that just me...? His bullshit banter about sports is unlistenable. He ranks right up there with Howie Stern, Fla Fla Flooey, and Black Earl when it comes to knowing zilch about sports. He says he knows hockey, but he knows very little. I hate to pick cuz I like the boys and they crack me up, but in my humble opinion, the Opster is an anchor in a sea of funny, whatever the fuck that means...

Throwing my hat in the ring:
I find Opie sitting in to be very funny. His relaxation definitely shows and it makes for some funny lines.
Whats even better is, Opie gives Dave credit where credit is due. Bravo.

Hell yea! Opie has really put on his A game in the past month or so and come through in a big big way. I'm glad to hear him throwing Vos insults, one-liners, etc.
