A new Imus controversy? (http://www.politico.com/blogs/michaelcalderone/0608/A_new_Imus_controversy.html)
During the show, conversation turned to a story about how suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones now wants to drop his well-known nickname. In the course of the segment, Imus is told that Jones has “been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.”
Imus asks: “What color is he?”
“He’s African-American,” the host is informed by one of his on-air sidekicks.
“Well, there you go,” Imus said. “Now we know.”

He's was joking that pacman got arrested for being black, it's positive racism as opposed to negative nappy ho racism. I don't see the firestorm on the horizon. Another post-post-imus world example of how scavengers are hanging on broadcaster's every single word in a desperate attempt to be noticed.

Asked Monday by the New York Times what he meant, Imus responded, according to the paper, "I meant he was being picked on because he's black."
Even still, Imus' comment caught the attention of Reverend Al Sharpton, who released a statement late Monday.
"It has been reported to me that statements were made by Mr. Imus this morning and National Action Network has monitored his show since his return," he said.
"I find the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes. Any use of stereotypes is always counterproductive. We will determine in the next day or so whether or not his remark warrants direct action on our part as we did in April of last year."

UPDATE
WABC-AM program director Phil Boyce, also a Citadel vice president, tells espn.com that Imus's explanation suffices, and that "some people may be misunderstanding what he meant." Boyce says Imus will explain his remarks on tomorrow's show, and it's not likely that he will face disciplinary action.

I have heard many of the black comedians and actors say that Sharpton does not speak for them. I must assume that hoards of blacks (no offense... I didn't say herds) appear to be tuning into the Imus shows, both old and new.
He really should filter himself to cater to this large black demographic. I can only think that he is trying to diversify his audience and get a few other ethnicities to listen aside from just the black people.
Maybe the just love the cowboy hat. Im not really sure why they listen so much. It's amazing how they can quote him verbatim and all.
My personal opinion is he should say the following:
To all of my many, many listeners of African American descent, I want to thank you for all that you have done to promote my show. People actually know who I am now, although I am labeled as another NIGGER GUY (a reference from South Park).
I love Niggers, Niggas, Negros, Blacks, African Americans, Afro Americans, Ethnics, Ebonies and of course Ivories. I also love Wiggers, Whiteys, Crackers, Massahs, The Man, and my all of my Jewish bosses.
I vow to never be suprised when a black guy gets involved in a criminal incident. I promise to never notice the ugliness of obviously lesbian black woman who participates in collegate athletic programs. I vow to never eat at either Cracker Barrel or Denny's. I will not buy Aunt Jamima syrup as I find the bottle to be simply ghastly and inappropriate.
In an extended effort to minimize my glowing hatred for blacks, I will stop locking my doors when I drive through the safe and lovely neighborhoods in DC, Philly, New York, Boston, Houston, LA, Dallas, New Orleans and many others.
And finally as a pennance for my horrible and dispickable attitude towards the black community with its upright and upstanding leaders like the Reverand Jesse Jackson and the Reverand Al Sharpton, who are so swift to point out my racist natures, I offer my naked back for there whips of justice to start the reparations that my great great great grandfathers should have paid over a century ago.
I am pure evil and I should be spat upon as I walk through the streets. Perhaps panhandled even more than I am now by the upstanding citizens of the Major metropolitan cities in which the black community has offered me such tremendous finiancial and moral support for the oh so many years I have worked in broadcasting.
My shame glows throughout my aweful white skin. Forgive me I beg of you.
THE END.

Well said.
As somebody who listens to Imus, O&A, and Ron & Fez, I feel qualified to do the compare & contrast. Imus' show, while the most "straight" & least funny overall (although Rob Bartlett and the new guy, Tony Powell, are top shelf) is definitely of the same species as the 202 shows. The nature of the show is ball busting amongst the staff and an attempt at least to make witty, non-hack commentary on current events and politics. Since he's old as dirt and has prominent politicians and media figures as guests he's more closely monitored by the Rev. Al types, and as such is going to attract MSM fake outrage more easily. (As others have pointed out, some of the things coming out of Anthony's mouth of late make this commie-symp liberal a lot more uncomfortable than anything Imus is spewing.) This particular brouhaha is much ado about nothing and it is really kinda sad to see how lemming-like the mainstream media is. Not surprising, certainly, but still sad. (By contrast, the Rutgers comments, while by my standards certainly not fireable, were IMHO "wrong" insofar as he took a gratuitous shot at some kids who really weren't public figures or who hadn't really done anything to warrant it.)
I suspect this round of witch-hunting won't get much traction because the company paying Imus now is just a radio company and they already have the real right-wing nuts on the payroll (Rush Limbaugh with "Barack, the Magic Negro" bits, etc.) so they're less likely to get bumrushed by Rev. Al and crew, the way that NBC and CBS did last time around.

NFL Live just aired a HEAVILY edited version of Imus explaining his comments today (I have it tivoed on RFD) taking out how he says Pacman Jones was being racial profiled and how black people are being arrested for nothing.
Then bonnie bernstein comes out of it and says "Ugggghh." Tom Jackson then pretty much says Imus can't have a discussion on race without getting in trouble. Which is a complete lie by someone that has clearly NEVER watched the show. He discuss race with either Tony and Kareth EVERYDAY or has a civil rights activist or columnist on to discuss Obama and race.
Add this to the fact sportscenter said before the show that Imus apologized today. HE DID NOT APOLOGIZE and he said HE WONT APOLOGIZE.
I cannot believe the society we are living in. They completely edited out him explaining (along with Tony and Kareth) that he was saying "That stuff (guns, drugs, drinking and trouble caused by women and those things) happens all the time in clubs, so why is this guy getting arrested for it?" The two black comedians on the show, Tony and Kareth, were more incredulous than Imus over this false outrage. Tony proceeded to add to most news and sports stories with, "What color was he?" or "What color is his car?"
Ignorance is bliss, right AKA?
Clearly you never listened to Imus prior to the Rutgers incident.
Clearly I did.

No.
you are not living on Earth 2, you are living in Wisconsin, where you do not listen to the Don Imus show regularly.
If you had, you would know that '"Well, there you go. Now we know." is one of his standard lines.
If people are going to really take that and blow it out of proportion then that is just ridiculous. I wish that for just one moment, people would focus on issues of real importance, like fucking Cancer and AIDS and our goddamn troops.
This mild comment is just another reason for human beings to be petty.
on BOTH sides.
The sooner people of color and people of no-color start taking responsibility for their actions and STOP concerning themselves with the utterings of others... the sooner we will live in a country worthy of being called "Land of the Free. Home of the Brave."
:clap::clap::clap::clap: Ditto on the real issues of importance.

Adam Jones says he was offended by WABC radio talkshow host Don Imus' comments about him on Monday.
Imus claims he was being sarcastic after asking what Jones' race was in a discussion of his six arrests, then saying, "Well there you go." Jones replied, "Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I will pray for him."
You know you've got problems when Pacman Jones is praying for you

I heard the clip, and cant figure out why the other guy (Warner Wolf?) did not pick up on where the conversation was going and try and steer it towards safer ground. If I see my co-worker going over the edge of whats acceptable in the office, I do what I can to get him back into sfw topics. I figure its what a friend does. People do it for me all the time to keep me from getting in too deep.

Because he does this bit all the time. The man being out for the blackman. They did a Mayor Nagen bit around that once a week up until he was fired.
The problem was he wasnt able to expand about the bit because he was in the middle of sports and they usually go to break after sports. And by the way Tony and Kareths mics are on during this and we heard nothing from them. She said today that once when her and Imus were talking about her being fired from the view he asked if it was because she was black, and she pretty much said she knew it was the same thing.

The saddest part about all of this is it serves only to stroke the egos of two people as worthless as Don Imus and Pacman Jones.

I only skimmed this thread, so I may have missed this. Apparently, Pacman is going to pray for Imus. What a guy.
On a side note for wrestling people, didn't he have a gimp career in TNA for like a month? I seem to recall him & Ron Killings a team a while back. IIRC, it was while he was suspended from the NFL?

Yea he was in TNA for a little while with teh most rediculous contract stips.
Basically in short form, he was not permitted by his football team to wrestle - at all. That's why he never actually wrestled and they just did a combination of run-ins/no contests during his "matches".
