It charges people to be inititated. But it has a set dogma and people believe in it 'religiously'. Is it a religion or not? And then, what defines a religion?

When I was in L.A. I passed by the Church of Scientology and they were trying to hand me a pamphlet and preaching with dead eyes. I vote cult!

Yes, of course it is. It makes as little sense and feeds off the weak minded as much as every other major religion. It fits right in.
I also always find it funny when christians say that scientologists have crazy beliefs.

I'm Catholic

Yet I agree with you 100%.

It didn't start as one.
In 1950 Astounding Science Fiction published an essay on how to acheive perfect mental health by Hubbard, called it Dianetics, and it took off. He started making machines ['e-meters'; the scientologists still want to hook you up to these today] he claimed the machines and users could detect traumatic things [the Thetans we know today] in you that were the cause of your physical and psych problems.
Others, mostly in the psych field, said the machines were bogus, and in 1963 the FDA raided Scientology offices and grabbed the meters. Scientologys response? Turn into a religion. Once a religion, he enjoyed protection under the first amendment.
IRS said hmmmm, and in 1967 ruled Scientology wasnt a religion but something to make Hubbard rich, and revoked the tax exempt status religious entities enjoy.
Scientology's response? Break into government offices, steal info, hire private investigators to look into the private lives of IRS members, and plant bugs; in 1980 11 Scientology memnbers, Hubbards wife among them, were convicted of conspiracy and burgulary.
In 1993, the IRS reversed and said it was a religion, after meetings between the IRS and Scientology officials. Something that makes me go hmmmmm....
So, no, then yes, then no, then yes.

is vagina a religion?
The V-bomb..Oooooooo...
The only genuinely effective weapon ever brought forth against man..
Sticking Hepatitis B needles directly into my urethra would not get me to do a fraction of the things I've done for a tight vagina..
And...Did it willingly and happily and would do it all again with a smile (slime?) on my face..
As a matter of fact, every single smiley face we use, is an emotion that I've experienced as a direct result of vagina (including help & banned)...
What else could make a man wax his balls, ass and taint..
Pifff...Certianly not the threat of an 88 million mega-ton explosion..
After all, didn't someone once say "Life is like a box...Just when you think you've got it licked, it fucks you.."?
or maybe I just made that up..Whatever!
Pussy rules! Period..
I bet your's carries a wallet says "Bad Mother-Fucker"!

I think ANY belief system, no matter what size, and no matter how "wacky" it is to others, is a religion. It won't necessarily be recognized by other people or the government, but it's still a religion.

Thank you. When Scientology starts a crusade against an entire religion then I will compare the two more closely.
