I thought I had shaken this off, but as it gets closer to bedtime,
it's rattling around in my brain...and I'm apprehensive of a recurrence this evening.

Last night, at around 4am, 15 minutes after laying down to sleep but not sleeping yet,
I heard a rustling in my kitchen, maybe 25 feet from my bedroom door.
Naturally, I assumed it was my cat Tracey eating or maybe she had found a bug to play with.

Then Tracey came out from under my bed, and tried to alert me to the noise in the kitchen that just woke her up. She's in as close to hunting mode as she gets; all ready to pounce but too afraid to advance toward the door. hmmmm....

I lay there, listening for more evidence of what it could be; maybe a mouse or bird that somehow got inside my apartment? Nothing...and Tracey now seems to have forgotten it, as she's washing herself. Ok...back to trying to get to sleep.

Seconds later, I hear the rustling again, only this time, I hear what I believe to be voices in muffled conversation. I sit up, reach for my Wade Boggs bat, and try to hear more, and I do. I hear, "Go." "No. He Wont Understand". Twice.

I, of course, am freaked out, but I quietly arise from my bed, and head for the door, bat in hands. Heart pounding, eyes begging to focus in the dark, I slowly open my bedroom door. As I do.. I hear foot steps scurrying away from me and the sound of a screen window opening in the kitchen. I throw on the light, slam open the door, shout "WHAT THE FUCK!" and run to the kitchen.

Nothing. I run to the living room. Nothing. I go downstairs and outside of my building. Nothing. Returning to my apartment, there is nothing disturbed. No screen windows open or closed. I imagined the whole thing...?

I am absolutely certain now that there were no natural intruders here last night.
I am, however a believer in spirits, and as rational as I try to be about this, I have a feeling they may return.

Snoogans will be happy to know this is not the Thats Life forum, and I fully expect lots of jokes at my expense. But if there's anyone with any kind words, or advice...thats cool too.

That's a pretty intuitive ghost.

But whats the twist?
Am I dead all along?
Am I unbreakable?
Am I actually living in modern times?
Or am I a priest who's lost his way?

Are you sure you weren't in that crazy "half asleep, half awake" state?

Those things can seem pretty realistic at times.

.

if you are a cop why would you fuck with a bat? .45, .40, or 9mm would be my choice.

No. You and Chris are both helpless against a ghost. I'm a big picture guy. When I hear a possible household intrusion, I carry a club (not allowed to have a gun) in case it's human, and a dust buster in case it's a ghost.

ChrisTheCop
06-24-2008, 10:22 PM
and yeah, it's easier to explain away bashing your landlord in the head with a bat
than shooting him. This weekend was a drinking weekend. The guns stayed at work.

I'm off to (gulp) bed.

If I'm not here tomorrow, check inside the tv set. Thanx.

I can be a real bastard. Just the other day, a good friend of mine was staying overnight (alone) in a college dorm room, during her son's orientation. She sent me a text saying that it was really creepy being there in a strange room, all alone. I responded by saying, "Gee... I hope it's not haunted. Goodnight".

Ha! My brother used to pull a similar deal on me when we were staying at my grandma's.
Just as we were getting ready for bed, he'd start in on how grandma's first husband's body is in the closet in our room. He'd say it's no big deal but grandma says each year on their wedding anniversary he comes out (no homo) and asks if he has any grand kids he can bring back to heaven with him.
I was brave enough to call bs, and he's say "fine dont believe me."
Then, at lights out, he'd say "Happy Anniversary Grandma!!"

Sorry Aim.

Well, due to exhaustion, I fell asleep rather quickly last night without incident.

However, at 4 am, I felt someone lying next to me, and woke up in a start.
That I can attribute to a dream, as I was surely asleep and my last thoughts were definitely
about ghosts. I laughed it off, and almost immediately fell back to sleep.

I would chalk this up to being in between asleep and awake... it's so weird how realistic things can be at that time.

I was napping one time at my parents' house and had a dream that a Revolutionary War soldier was standing at the foot of my bed and took his knee and bumped it against the bed to wake me up, and I FELT MY BED MOVE, and woke up. It spooked me for a good long time...

Until I realized I probably had a leg spasm or something and woke myself up.

What was creepy at the time is that my parents lived in Manalapan, famously known for its role in the Revolutionary War (Battle of Monmouth). Creepy.

How did you see your cat? Was your room lit up? Did you turn on the light, and in that way were able to see the cat?

I had a couple of episodes during a two month period about two years back where I was waking up jumping out of bed swearing that a spider had crawled across my pillow. I would jump up, turn on the light and furiously search my bed for the spider, but always realized that it must've been a vivid dream because I had to turn the lights on to see ANYthing in my room, let alone a small spider. Highly unlikely, also very creepy.

The mind is a powerful thing. I bet you dreamed most of it and then got up when you "heard" the door creak. Not trying to dismiss your fears, or just make you feel better, it's the most likely answer, isn't it?

i hate dreams.
the worst one is the one where im dreaming that im standing next to or sitting on the toilet and peeing. i can vividly "feel" the peeing sensation. i always wake up in a panic and check my pants, and its ALWAYS just a dream. but one that just fucks with me and makes me paranoid.

this usually causes me to head the bathroom for a bit whether i have to go or not.
hate it
hate it
hate it.

i have to take it seriously. the one time i say fuck it, its only a dream is the day that im going to piss myself in bed like i was a 5yr old.
