I got a wedding invitation in the mail for a wedding that i cannot attend. Of course, you still have to send a gift of some sort even though you are not attending. What is the proper dollar amount you should send even though you are not going?
(i think it should be zero but that is socially unacceptable.)
what have you guys done in the past?

Whatever you can afford. We've sent $100-$150, depending on our relationship to the people involved.
If you can't afford $100, send a gift from the couple's registry in the price range that you CAN afford.

100 if you were invited with a guest, 50 if you were invited single
150 if it is a good friend or close relative

A c-note would be nice.
$50 at a minimum.
I have a similar situation and will probably buy them a registry gift in the $75 range.

This is weird. My wedding is next month and due to parental pressure we invited a lot of people we don't expect to show up (friends of my mom's, relatives I've never met, etc). I didn't even think that they might send a gift if they weren't showing up...it actually never crossed my mind.

The amount remains the same whether you attend or not. The gift is in celebration of the event; not whether you had the salmon and couple glasses of wine.
Would you give less of a birthday present if there was no party?

Yes, you should get one. Depends what you can afford. Just pick something off of their registry that you are comfortable with. She's your sister, hopefully she'll be happy with whatever you decide to give.

Send them a $5 coupon book from McDonalds and let us know how it went.

I agree about the 100 around there, depending on how close you are.
They probably have cheaper gifts on their registry tho.
Just google their names and registry (or one of their names) if they don't have it on there.
I think 50 bucks is ok if you're not that close and strapped for cash. If you're gonna give that much tho, I would go for a present from the registry thing.
It would show that a lot more thought was put into it.
