Should beautiful people not be able to commit suicide?

I saw the headlines for this Supermodel who committed suicide (http://www.nypost.com/seven/06282008/news/regionalnews/model_suicide_117616.htm) and when I read the article, it implied that because this woman was beautiful, it was a waste for her to commit suicide. It seems like they ignore that she was in some sort of distress, to the point that she wanted to end her life to get rid of this personal dilemna. It's as if she should have stuck around so that people could admire her more, ignoring that she had some problems.

Now, to my question:

When people who are unattractive or who have not contributed much to society commit suicide, do you consider their death less meaningful? Would you ignore a person who told you they wanted to commit suicide if they weren't all that attractive, or if they dropped out of high school? Is there a hierarchy to suicide prevention?

In college I had 2 less attractive girls who wanted to commit suicide enough to where they told me. These were 2 separate occasions. I put in way more time than a close friend would have to talk them (successfully) down. I barely knew them and I avoided ever talking to them again. I just didn't want to have ANYone's death on my conscious.

Fast forward twenty years. This lawyer I new from a bad divorce group therapy thing came over to my place in the middle of a black out and claimed he was going to kill himself. No, I didn't even want a lawyer's death on my conscious. So even though I really didn't know this guy, I put him up for a few days. He drank a $100 bottle of tequila, loaded my computer up with anal porn, and threw up on a t-shirt I was saving as a present until the next time I saw my niece. Not to mention wasted my whole weekend! Now I feel bad about the stranger who wants to kill themselves, but I think my conscious can handle it.

There are billions of humans, if you hurt that bad... I'm not for torture if it's going to be a huge undertaking to fix a broken person. I'll also throw in euthanasia for the terminally ill and the really old and falling apart.

I've always figured my suicide would be unnoticed and quickly forgotten, because I'm very unattractive. That being said, I think people who are attractive probably have friends or people who care about them in their lives, partially because they are attractive, but also because they're probably normally adjusted to society.

I honestly think people who will leave behind people who do honestly care about them should not commit suicide because of the pain they will inflict on those people. if you're truly alone, and there won't be anyone who really notices you're gone, and your life is meaningless and pointless and going nowhere, then sure, just don't make a mess of it. I'd certainly do it if I could.

The fact that there's a news story about this particular person proves she shouldn't, and I hope she sees that, even if the story really is just a media freakshow, someone noticed...

That's my point. A lot of people do, even though they didn't know her, all because she has the title of model. They call it a "great loss" even though models are easy to hire.

The young woman was 20 years old and must have gotten yanked out of Kazahkstan(!!) when she was in her mid-teens and thrown into the jet set life style with 0% chance to develop any kind of coping skills for that 0 to 300MPH transition. It is a tragic and sad story but the world is full of tragic and sad stories. You're right in that the reason that this is getting any media attention is that she was semi-famous and (used to have) great bone structure but I don't think that should be a reason or excuse for people to mock her out posthumously.

I think that there should be suicide centers that people go to when they want to kill them selves. They will be evaluated with counseling and support groups - then they will be allowed to kill them selves in a controlled fashion if they choose so. Like in an old pool without H2O in it. BLAMMO!

Well it's the same thing when someone rich or beautiful or famous is murdered--it's such a tragedy but no one gives a shit about some ugly hooker getting her throat slit.
