So a law in Pennsylvania says that PA residents can't buy fireworks, but anyone else can. Since then, there's been fireworks places popping up all over on the NJ/PA border. Of course, Anne Milgram (AG of NJ) is trying to "sting" people crossing back into Jersey with Fireworks.

So who's getting/gotten fireworks this year?

Ive heard that cops usually have bags full of fireworks that theyve taken from kids,
and brought home for their personal use.

Not so this year...or so Ive been told.
Damn "good" kids.

fireworks are boring. I was really into them some time back then... they just lost their appeal. Unless you are doing something interesting with them, they suck

Well, this is the first time I've had fireworks in a long, long time. They used to be "forbidden" but they aren't that scary as long as you are safe and don't be an idiot.

I'm looking forward to friday. I'm evening bringing safety equipment. Bucket of sand, safety goggles, gloves... just in case.

I've actually got a lot of stuff. It's going to be... ridiculous.

Not to be too much of a hayseed but where I'm from safety equipment means putting down your beer. I love fireworks the fourth has always been my favorite holiday. No cards or gift giving neccesary and the weather is always nice.

Every year is "the year" they start cracking down... and every year they're all over the neighborhood. I buy my fireworks a couple days after the 4th and bring them over the border for the next year.

Colbert did a great bit about not being able to get fireworks in Mass. (This is from Hulu, not Youtube, so there may be a 15 or 30 second commercial at the beginning):

I have three of these places right in town.

We only do fireworks on New Years in Germany, but everybody buys it and it's always great fun.
It's become more fashionable to have big displays for weddings, beginning of school and graduation parties, birthdays even and all you need there is a permit from the town.

I actually read that here in PA you are allowed to buy as a PA resident with a proper permit from the city.

Anyway, there is always idiots that will get burned and injured... but most people know how to operate them and have fun with it.

We had these sparkle sticks for kids "Wunderkerzen". Even my then 2 year old held some last year.

Yes, they're illegal too.

I have happy childhood memories of those suckers, myself.

Incidentally, they have big ones with extra-long handles in addition to the little-bitty ones that your parents (or, more likely, your bachelor uncle) used to let you write your name in the air with way back in the day.

I've got a bag of fireworks that my brother in law has given me over the past few years. The best part of that is that he is licensed to do professional fire works displays. He makes alot of his own stuff, and I usually end up with some of it. I've learned over the years not to trust his homemade stuff though, sometimes its like a firecracker, and sometimes its ridiculously loud.

I have friends that go to Breezwood every year. They say Phantom will constantly load free stuff on you if you agree to buy just a little more. If you spend about 100 bucks, they say you can come out with more than you need.

I live off Gandy BLVD. in Tampa, 1/2 mile from the Gandy bridge. On the other side of that bridge; there is a sandy patch of shit on either side of the road that is frequented by EVERY Redneck in Pinellas county virtually every weekend. Its our version of the 'Redneck Riviera' and its a sight to see. On 4th of July, this is taken up a few notches. Arriving at what must be right after dawn, they come in droves, positioning themselves close to the water and never too far from their kegs, coolers, stills and God only knows what else.
Its important to note that firework sales start in the first week of June and go off every night leading up to 4th of July. That being said, it is nothing compared to the BIG NIGHT.
I have seen the fireworks display in many major cities along the east coast and Rocky Mountains, but NOTHING compares to Gandy BLVD. on the Pinellas side when we as Americans celebrate our Declaration of Independence. From homemade explosives, to mortars, to gas-powered launching devices, it is amazing.
If you are in or near the bay area, I beg you----go watch. You will not be disappointed.

Jean Shpeherd had a PBS show 'Shepherd's Pie' and had one show all about how great explosions are and how fireworks and July 4th are a part of the american DNA that segued into one of his greatest short stories, 'Ludlow Kissel and the Dago Bomb that Struck Back' and thank Christ for YouTube... nstead of telling you about it in an insanely long post I can shut the fuck up and let Shep himself show you why he was the King of All Media long before whats-his-name.

Fans of 'A Christmas Story' will LOVE This. Shep fans?? Please. And yes, thats MD playing Ralph this time.

Why is this stuff not super famous? Beats me.

Go to YouTube and search for rest of the show. Its in a bunch of parts.

I'd like to thank LAX ans Shelle for their cigarettes. The lighter I had was seriously gay and lighting fireworks with cigarettes was so much easier (and not recommended - I'm an untrained professional)

The only reason I had the goggles on was because Jeff was acting like a drunken idiot and I didn't want to take a rocket to the face because he thought it was "funny". He was also shooting shit and giving no warnings while we were in the firing line.

Once I found a firing line (off the front corner of the patio) the goggles came off.

I'm more concerned about Missy and Jeff's neighbors...

At one point I was on the deck on the water and just a little too close to where Jeff was lighting off bottle rockets and some firecrackers. It got scary at some points because some of the bottle rockets didn't go anywhere and blew up on the deck right next to me. I'm no worse for the wear, but yes I am...a survivor!!!

An esplanade is a long, open, level area, usually next to a river or large body of water, where people may walk. This allows people to promenade along the sea front, usually for recreational purposes, whatever the state of the tide, without having to walk on the beach.

I think for every 10 rockets Jeff lit up 2 of them actually went in the air.
Then he tried some new technique where he lied on the floor in an almost birth-giving position and lit them, which for some reason had much better results.
