A couple suggestions...

You probably should drop it about her lazy eye, as there's nothing she can do about it without surgery, which, if it's an option financially, and open for discussion with your wife, you should bring up with her in a way that's being sensitive to her feelings. It might do wonders for her self-esteem.

Also, you say you "tell her to be healthy"... which is pretty general... why don't you lead by example and regularly ask her to join you on walks or something else you two can enjoy while being physically active? You might also like to take over the cooking in exchange for her taking on one of your responsibilities (I'm assuming your wife does the cooking... I could be wrong), which gives you a little bit of control over her diet.

Finally, maybe you could try getting to the bottom of why she's given up on trying to impress you... are you giving her the same impression? that you've given up? Is she bogged down with household or work responsibilities and doesn't have any time to take care of herself?

Any kids? Most people, if push comes to shove, could handle logistically handle a straight up divorce...sprinkle in some kids, though, and you're kind of screwed.

By the way, not saying you should even be considering that...just curious if you have the option of leaving if she basically tells she doesn't care what you think.


As far as the weight deal goes, spin it that you're worried about her health and you don't want to see anything happen to her...don't bring up the attraction part.

If she balks at it, or just says she doesn't care, then you might want to drop a "how can I care about someone who doesn't care about themselves?" But be forewarned...that's a high risk, high reward move...once you start down that path, that can turn on you quickly.

The vision in the lazy eye is significantly weaker than the other eye. My nephew had his "corrected" at birth but he still doesn't see well out of that eye. It's all but ruined his baseball career. Bats right with a bad left eye. I think it has to do with muscles, nerves, and shit.

I think both of these are good ideas. I would say getting extremely fit would also be a preemptive move in preparation for being single. If she does not bite on getting fit with you, you will be very prepared for your new life.

Convince yourself of all the reasons why you should talk with her about this but don't just rush a machine gun nest with a baseball bat. Maybe be a weasel and contact her primary care physician, mother, witch doctor and mention your concerns. Mention to him/her (the dr.) that you can't talk to her about it for obvious reasons you love her etc. ... but that he's a neutral party that needs to impress upon her the necessity of taking another look at her lifestyle. She may be depressed, maybe needs therapy or a 12 step program etc etc but she wont do shit unless someone connects with her and impresses upon her the gravity of things. Diabetes will fuck you up.

Don't feel too bad about just spilling what you don't like about your spouse (realize what's your insecure crap but don't feel bad about realizing it at all)... a lot of people never talk about it and just get divorced. It sounds like you're looking for the solution.

Maybe you can take her to a relaxing private place and have a heart to heart with her where you express your sincere concerns about her health. You're her life partner and she's cutting her life short by not taking care of herself. You can tell her this is coming from a place of love and that you're genuinely worried about the person you love.

Is she an approachable person? I have someone in my life who is incredibly UNapproachable and you can't say anything to this person without them breaking down, pushing you away, and trying to turn it around on you... so, if your wife is open to discussion, it's a REALLY good thing.
