It's like the Confederate Flag here in the U.S. Why do people get flack for proudly showing off their Southern roots? Because of it's associaltion with slavery, yet there was slavery in the North too but you don't see people talking to much of it. And Lincoln didn't try to put an end to slavery until towards the end of the war.

But in the end, the spoils go to the victor or the dominate ideology/power/society.
