so next weekend, myself, my bro and a few buddys are heading to chicago for a bachelor party weekend for my brother. ive only been to chicago once and it was years ago so i am looking for some good bars, strip clubs, etc. that will be a good time. we have reservations at gibson's steakhouse for saturday night and tickets to a white sox game on sunday (damn cubs have to be on a road trip).
i thought arlington park would be a good place to head for saturday afternoon to bet on some horses and have some beers. i looked online and it said it was accessible from the train. how far of a trip is it from downtown?
i would greatly appreciate any suggestions or tips where to head to. we are staying at hotel 71 at michigan and wacker, so anything relatively close to there would be a bonus.

Sadly, Matty Tenbats has taught me never to help travelers in distress. Sorry.
Have fun.

Last time I was there I stayed at the Lennox..I thought their ESPN Bar was pretty cool, probably because it was around the corner from the hotel but there was tons of females in there.. You know, if you're into that type of thing..
Have fun brother and remember for your brother's sake, no pics!

wish i drank but i dont so i dont know where any of that is.
But you can always go out to navy peir and go on the giant ferris wheel.
Or to millenium park to see the "fancy bean"
and then over to Iwen&Ries cigar store.

I'm pretty poor, so I tend to just go to neighborhood-y bars. I'm not classy enough for gambling and fancy restaurants, and definitely too poor for strip clubs, so all of my suggestions would be completely wrong.

Looks like it's about a 50 minute train ride out to Arlington Park. Here's the train schedule. (http://metrarail.com/Sched/cnw_nw/cnwnwwo.shtml)

I was in Chi-town, the windy city, the city by the lake, the city with broad shoulders, the second city last summer and a cool place I went to was Castaways (http://www.stefanirestaurants.com/castaways.htm) on the beach.

My view from Castaways
After an afternoon of drinking there, you can cross the street into the city and walk to Twin Anchors Bar (http://www.twinanchorsribs.com/) and get some delicious ribs. About a 15 minute walk I recall.
These might be touristy type places, but as a first time I had a great time.

Hey, that's right by me!
Castaways is super touristy, by the Twin Anchors rules. Great food (but a very limited menu) and a classic bar...it's basically my waterin' hole since I always pass it walking home, plus it's right off the Sedgewick El stop.

Amy and I are looking to go to Chicago during our vacation in September. We want to check out Molly's for sure to get a Ron Bennington cupcake, take in a Cubs game at Wrigley with my FUKUDOME jersey and just enjoy the whole city. There's a place we saw on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives that makes what looks like amazing char-grilled burgers. If anyone has recommendations on places to go, and see let me know. If you've YELPED (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=on2W9v_nPJYOM1REugwfqA) about it also post a link to it here.

Mojo's living in Old Town...that IS swanky.
Don't bother with Arlington. It's a long trip from where you're staying - a 15 minute cab ride from your hotel to the station and an hour on the train. There are much cooler things to do in the city. Twin Anchors is great, but if you go on Sunday expect to wait a while.

Ugh, NO!
It's very close, but I'm more towards the park.
Old Town is such a fucking tourist trap, even though things right across the street are awesome, like Second City and a bunch of the bars around or near it.

Yea i agree with Tony, on the visit to Mollys, and on Yelp being a really helpful tool. Also if you haven't discovered HOPSTOP.com check it out immediately :).
Hopstop for every major city will tell you how to get from point A to point B by car, subway or bus, and will tell you what it will cost and travel time.
Nothing wrong with being a tiny bit touristy when you visit a new city. I know you're looking for beers and guy stuff, but a trip to Garrett's Popcorn is REALLY worth it. You're going to love Gibsons, the steak is fantastic, and if you guys are into cigars, Chicago is a great town for that-- lots of good places. If you google Iwan Reiss, you'll find an article about all the cigar friendly places in Chicago.
I didnt do much drinking while i was there, so i'm useless on the bar front, but wherever you go, have a Fat Tire. My favorite and you cant get it in the east.

Wow, you should write a review (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hopstop-com-new-york#hrid:4s-s0gslx3yB0aqUChnVaA) on yelp for that site. :bye:
