Congress has passed it and Bush already wants to sign it
it Allows the government to monitor your phone and Text messages without warrant
bush said "We are about to Pass a bill that will give more protection to the American people to track down terrorists"
"Anyone willing to give up a little liberty for a little protection gets none and has neither" Ben Franklin

seems like the government can pass anything just as long as they attach the word "terrorist"

I haven't read enough about the version that Congress passed to see how much of our freedom they gave up so I'm not sure how upset I am yet.
However, the silver lining may be that once Obama is President the listening devices can be trained on the Limbaugh-Hannity-O'Reilly-Fox News choir, which should provide quite the abundance of entertaining secrets to be leaked.
I'm applying for that job in 2009.

Who cares. If you wanna listen in to my calls go ahead. Bore yourself out.
I call radio shows, Anthonys Pizza and my wife. - U got nothin on me uncle sam.
I even greet them whenever im on da phone -and try to fuck with them sometimes.
BTW Im sure they have been listening and watching us for the last 75 yrs anyway.
I think maybe we should give up some of our rights anyway. Maybe this country wouldnt be the shit-hole it is today if we wenrt so obsessed with freedom and greed or our stupid "rights" -

That sound everyone just heard was the sound of the Founding Fathers flipping over in their graves.

To fully understand this, you have to have an idea of what the Plaintiff's Bar is. Next to Unions and others such 'organized' groups, the Plaintiff's Bar is a HUGE contributor to the Democratic party. Why is this important?
Simple -
Large corporations, like telecom companies are easy targets for these vipers to take to court, win huge settlements against and thusly make millions of dollars for the lawyers who will then contribute large sums of that back into the Democratic party machine. Sound crazy?
it isn't.
It so nakedly obvious yet unreported, it sickens me.
Obama is catching so much hell on this from his party because he is moving a little closer to the center with his flip-flopped viewpoint, thinking he has to appeal to a much broader base to win. he doesn't. Unfortunately he will be our next President.

Check out Feingold (http://216.87.173.33/media/2008/0807/msnbc_ko_feingold_fisa_080709a.flv) saying how Obama should be president so he can change the FISA law. Then he continues to go on about how nice it would be to have an administration that doesn't have such a crazy notion of executive power.
,, and :wallbash:

Neither can I but it looks like it will.
Though I really don't believe that he can fuck things up worse than Bush has.
Hopefully the dems will pick up a few seats in the Senate and several in the House and maybe start to undo some of the damage. This bill along with the Patriot Act would be good places to start
