This has bothered me for awhile and you're probably the best person to ask- if you could spin the earth backwards fast enough, would that enable time to reverse itself? I say no.

i gonna have to agree with you. i think if the world started to turn the wrong way something bad would most likely happen. And thats my word.

IKEABOY - Of course not - although a sudden shift in rotation would certainly be devestating to the planet.

Here's a little trivia for you. Did you know that the earth's magnetic field shifts polarity about every 300,000 years?

i'm not denying that time travel COULD possibly happen, just not in the way presented in Superman

When the magnetic poles shift every 300K years that means that there is a new North star in the sky...so we would see the southern cross and not the big dipper

While Einstein did theorize that time travel was indeed possible, didn't he say something to the effect that it would be almost impossible to achieve? At least, almost impossible to achieve and still survive the trip.

The question I most want the answer to now is, if the poles shift every 300,000 years, does that mean one morning we'll wake up and the water in our toilets will start running the other way?

he was living underground because he had to work secretly on his plans for world domination.

Superman IV he was living in a penthouse because that movie was so horribly made and put together (Lois can breath in space!??) that it made me wish that Christopher Reeve fell off a horse.

I'm kinda upset that he reversed time and foiled Lex's plans. I wanted to live in Otisburg.

It wasn't a super person, it was a superclone made from a hair clipping and a nuclear rocket headed toward the sun with long finger nails.

Einstein's theory is tied into the concept of relatavistic speed.

As we all know, Einstein showed that at light speed, mass is converted to energy.

At even a 10th light speed an effect is produced causing time to pass at a different rate than objects moving slower.

For example a person on earth woudld expereince time normally. As relatvistic speeds are approached, time condences on the ship. A person on earth could have 10 subjective years pass, while a person on a relatavistic ship could age only 2 subective years. (there is no 1 to 5 ratio, i chose those numbers as examples.

When the ship returned to earth, a 10 year old at time of departure will be 12, and a 10 year old on earth will be 20.

PRetty cool.

But we're years away from anything approaching relatavistic speed. Light travels fast. Very fast.

186,000 miles per second!!

It takes the light from the sun over 8 minutes to reach earth.

Another thing that bothers me about Superman is that apparently he can suffocate in certain situations (Superman III when Richard Pryor wraps Superman in saran wrap), but he can fly in outer space without any breathing problems.
