Like, lets say someone from out of town got busted with a casual amount of weed in the car on their person, is jail time involved?
*in dc they hold u for 4 hours and release u and drop all charges

Why can't pot just be legal. It's such a harmless drug. I don't do it, but all it leads to is people eating more, isn't that good for the economy?

I haven't kept up with the NY penal code (I dislike criminal law). My McKinney's on is 10 years out of date but unless things have changed:

Depending on the amount you are found with and your inferred intention by the amount, the crime ranges from simple misdemeanors all the way up to a felony!

I'm very much in favor of legalizing drugs. "The law is an ass."

SHEEP - You are absolutely correct. However, since tere are lasws making drug possession, etc a crime, some legislative act must occur to revoke these laws. The legistlature will have to carefully codify new drug laws. With codification comes regulation.

This came up in some posts a few months back. We discussed the necessity of regulation there.

PERRYNOID, I speak from experience here, so here goes...

I was arrested in 5/96 in Washington Square Park for smoking marijuana in public. This was during "potfest", when thousands gather under the purple haze of the great cannabis leaf. I spent about 60 hours in Manhattan central booking facilities, which is the ugliest place you could ever hope to be. After I was released, I kissed the filthy NYC sidewalk of freedom, and returned to my home and job to explain what had happened, getting nothing but moral support. I went to court soon after, to be given one year of unsupervised probation, when after that year expired, all charges were supposedly wiped off my record. To this day, I'm still bitter about the fact that I was arrested in the first place, given that there were thousands of people in attendance at the event and I was one of 301 people arrested that day in WSP, and I had to spend a night in a holding cell with the Unibomber.

But anyway, do your thing, just be careful. I'm no legal expert by any means, just thought I'd share my experience.

yeah we have something that use to be called RAR rock against reagan. now its just an anual smoke out. every july 3rd. on the lincoln memorial grounds. norml throws a bash , like 5-10 thousand a year. we smoke and march to the white house to protest the laws. (free weed and the cops are cool.) they even escort the march. anyway, druugs and weed can screw your life up if u are weak.
