Russia Aims Nukes @ Europe

there's a big difference between pointing and considering.

Russia may aim nukes at Europe

Russia is considering aiming nuclear weapons at Western Europe for the first time since the end of the cold war.

It's just political posturing in response the Czech Republic signing the missile defense bill with the US. It'll be an actual story if it ever happens.

It's all computer programming anyway. I'm sure GW had ours "aimed" at Massachussetts for a few days after they let gay marriage get legal.

It's just a way for our world leaders to vent. Sort of like throwing a beer bottle at your TV. Only you don't have to spring for a new flatscreen this way.

Maybe everyone should trade in their nukes for floating satellite dicks that just squirt urine over countries. Less casualties.

So instead of MIRV warheads, we have PIMB warheads?

Very intriguing. I need input from Yerdaddy on this.

Well, what do you expect them to do?

US has been expanding its sphere of influence all over Europe, to the point where now, it wants to have a missile defense installation in Eastern Europe in order to "protect from the growing threat in the Middle East"

The State Department claims that the location of the missile defense has nothing to do with Russia, you know, just like the Cuban Missile Crisis had absolutely nothing to do with the US-Soviet relations, the Russians were simply building "swimming pools" for their Caribbean vacation homes, not missile silos.

The whole "aiming missiles at Europe" bit is posturing. It takes seconds to aim a missile, if Russia wanted to, it could re-aim the missile on the Antarctic penguin colonies, if the birds were to rub Putin the wrong way.

In the end, the Russians take offense at the growing western influence of the US in Europe, especially as far as America's strategic strike ability against Russia. So, they are fighting tooth and nail against the missile defense system. And I feel that they will win. There is a significant public backlash against the system in many proposed sites for it. People just don't want to live between a rock and a hard place, who woulda thunk it.

Bush and Rice will likely posture for a few more months, maybe even reach a preliminary agreement, but when Obama is elected, he will look to diffuse the situation and concentrate on places that actually matter, you know, like the places where US Troops are actualyl dying - Iraq and Afghanistan ... and apparently North Carolina, that's a sad story.

Russians have always been all bite and no bark. If they can bully a lesser foe, then they are up to the task, but when they face the big boys, they do not do shit.

Well, you could same the same for the US.

Really, Americans couldn't beat North Korea or Vietnam, they had a nice military campaign in the first Gulf War but balked politically and fucked up the country, abandoning a minority population who paid a very heavy price. They steamrolled Afghanistan, only to install a horribly corrupt government and created an opium plantation the size of Texas. Not to mention the second Iraq war.

That's not much better than the Russian campaign in Afghanistan 20 years ago. Now imagine if Iraq or Afghanistan was getting help from China or Russia now, how fucked up would the situation be if the Taliban or the Militias suddenly had T-90 tanks, the latest RPGs and unlimited resources. We really don't want a second cold war, because posturing leads to wars by proxy, and we end up with more wars like Korea and Vietnam.

The United States is just as screwed up as Russia, and neither country has made a smart military move since WW2. It's all posturing, and that's all it will ever be as long as there are 10,000 nukes between the 2 nations. Really, it's like 2 kids who hate each other with Bazookas in a 10ft by 10 ft room. Each kid knows that if the other kid presses the trigger, they are both dead, so the best they can do is draw a line across the room and scream and yell at each other if one of them gets too close to the line.

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russia said Monday it was dispatching a nuclear cruiser and other warships and planes to the Caribbean for joint exercises with Venezuela, the first such manoeuvres in the US vicinity since the Cold War. (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5iio3aRoskDcylpG-L-L9i7Ss-8Pw)

No big deal. This is simply a response to the U.S.'s stance on Georgia, and the warships America sent to the Black Sea. It's just Russia showing the state department that they can get involved in the other hemisphere as well, something that America hasn't had to deal with since the end of the cold war. It should, in design, slightly shift the U.S. foreign policy in the isolationist direction. Of course, it could backfire, and a dumb president in office could misread the situation and almost start a third world war (*cough*jfk*cough*).
