Anybody else remember going to see the Giants and Jets play in NYC before they built that ugly "cookie cutter" stadium in the Jersey swamp?
Yankee Stadium was really a great place to see football. Giant fans always took their football seriously, they were all business as I watched Fran Tarkenton, Ron Johnson and Homer Jones.
Shea was completely different.
The Jets were always second to the Giants(and still are) and games at Shea were one big drunken party. They had a live orchestra at every game, and drunks and fights and of course Joe Willie, Don Maynard and OJ Simpson coming in with Buffalo. What a place to see a game!

First football game I ever went to was at Shea. Jets vs. Colts in the snow. 1975 or 76.
My dad let me sip blackberry brandy at the tender age of 5 to keep warm.

I even saw the Rangers at the "old" MSG, and The Giants at The Yale Bowl. God am I old.

I remember seeing one Jets game in like 1979 or so with my father, I was a young tike, and how I remember it was Shea stadium was all the multi-colored seats. Orange and Blue throughout the stadium. My father tells me all the time how the Jets used to be called the Titans...The Baseball teams got fed up with there fields being torn up.

I remember seeing the Nets in the ABA and while they were building the Meadowlands Arena I saw them at Rutgers.

Hey, hey, hey, hey, HEY! Never speak ill of GIANTS Stadium! The location might suck, but I love that building. Along with its' complete lack of any modern amenities.

I've been going to Jets games since 1978, ( I love punishment) so I went to Shea. It's a terrible place to watch football. I hope the Jets stay at the "Swamp" forever. There's not a bad seat anywhere.

Something I've always wondered about down here in Va about NY sports fans.
I've always kinda figured that most yankees fans also rooted for the Giants and Mets fans root for the Jets.
I wonder if there are many Yankees/Jets fans or Mets/Giants fans.

I hit the trifecta my friend. I root for the Mets/Jets, and to top all that off, the Islanders. It is a triple losing/disappointing season all around for me. At least it was that way till 1998

I went to a few Jet games at Shea and it was a fun time but then I would stay at my friends house in Woodside and take the Number 7.

you have two choices: Castration or a one way ticket to New York

It's usually Mets/Jets(large Long Island fan base) and Giants/Yankees(Jersey fans). The 5 Boroughs of NYC are divided. Brooklyn is mostly Mets due to the Dodgers, while The Bronx is mostly Yankee fans. Queens and Staten Island are a tossup, while Manhattan has many old National League fans due to the baseball Giants.
Me? I'm a rarity. I loved the Yankees due to Mantle and Pepitone and the Jets because of Joe Willie. Throw in the Rangers and Knicks too.
