Katie Couric and the CBS Evening News showed brutal video--I will not kink, look for it on your own--of American soldiers being ambushed and killed in Afghanistan as part of their story relating to the escalating violence in the country--more specifically, the fighting in the Kunar Province.

As a former Infantry soldier ... who has friends serving in Iraq and Afghanistan ... I was horrified to see that the video was taken by the killers, Al Queda/Taliban/Whoever ... and our news program showed the footage.

I suggest emailing a complaint to CBS through www.cbsnews.com and sending a massage through their feedback link at the bottom of the page.

I will not watch CBS Evening news again. I only saw the footage because I switched on my cable box and channel 2 (CBS) is the default startup.

I am praying the family and friends of that slain soldier do not have to view his butal death on the side of a mountain (which he tumbles down) over our television because Katie (F'n) Couric is looking for cheap ratings. Tabloid television has taken over, ladies and gentlemen.

Ummm ... no. It's a sad attempt to generate ratings by showing the propaganda videos of the enemy--footage that also demoralizes the soldiers and citizens of this country.

If they want to tell the story of the ambush, fine ... but to show the actual death of an American soldier for evening news ratings smells of whore-ish behavior. Sellouts ... not news people. Uh, and by the way ... Dan Rather called ... and he's really sorry for the lie ... and still out of a job.

Unforgivable!

But Katie sure is "bubbly".

Yes ... and the military and the country suffered as a result.

So the media lost the Vietnam War?

As much as we don't like it, CBS has the rights to run that tape. Let capitalism run its course and may CBS suffer the consequences of their actions.

Please, this is not about Vietnam ... and I don't want to go down that road.

I understand CBS has "the right" but you make a great point about rights ... I )hopefully We) also have the right not to watch their programming if they exploit the death of American soldiers.

OK ... here's the deal ... do me, and all soldiers a favor and send the complaint ... then you may continue to watch Sunday Morning .. just not Evening News with Katie Couric.

While I am not in any way affiliated with the military I am also disgusted by this. However, it's been going on for a hell of a long time in news. Ever since some guy said 'Herb, check it! Ratings R Gr8t wh3n b@d ne\/\/s is on more †han g00d new$!!™", the news has become completely obsessed with almost exclusively bad news. Hence the accusations that they are a bunch of vultures praying for something horrid to happen so they can get rich.

I find equally offensive all the supreme attention that was given to the VT shooter. They went so far as to talk about his shitastic play. How is some murderer's stupid play in any way NEWS WORTHY??? Put it on People magazine, but the nightly news? Same with all the extra peripheral stories pertaining to Columbine. I've said my piece about that before, won't repeat it here.

Journalists do alot for this country but it's ultimately a fucking business. And for some insane reason, I find that really disillusioning.

I'm not sure I agree, but I will support you by continuing not to watch CBS news. In fact, I'll continue not to watch any television "news" to prove a larger point.

I'm sure I'll be called anti (insert your favorite patriotic word here), but I watched Baghdad get bombed live on TV, and have seen countless videos of enemy soldiers getting mowed down and blown to bits on the news.

War sucks from either side. TV news is retarded.

But isnt it our right and responsibility as Americans to know exactly what is going on in Iraq with out it being censored or skipped over so that we could make informed decisions in the upcoming elections?

Did they identify the solider by name or was the footage clear enough to see a face? If not, then even though I would choose not to watch, I don't see the issue. War is hell and it’s about time that people in this country realize that. With all the government restrictions on coverage of the war dead, it's time that people see war uncensored.

Of course, the news could do a better job at highlighting that fact that we pulled a lot of the support for the fight in Afghanistan out to fight an unnecessary war in Iraq.

I started watching the first episode of Generation Kill. Looks interesting.

CBS is no differnet that any other news station. They ALL would have run that video.

as digusting as it is and in poor taste, its real and has the right to be reported.

just another example of mainstream media trying to showing the war as a failure.

I don't know why they have to even try, as reality shows the war as a failure just fine.

NOt when it's their propaganada video. And, for all that's holy, THAT's ONE OF OUR BOYS BEING SNUFFED! So, what, Katie can get some ratings and buy another house in the Bahamas?

I cant's stand this country at times ... Love it and get frustrated by it all at once.

How is it propaganda? Was it doctored in some way? Cause if its not, then its just news. The US media has been very vigilant at NOT showing anything like this for the past 5 years. News in other countries frequently shows the casualties of war. Its very simple, if you dont want to see our soliders die, then get them out of there. But If you want to keep fighting, then you should take a good hard look at the lives you are sacrificing and ask yourself if it is worth it.

It's propaganda because it's a Taliban/Al Queda highlight (fucking) reel. Other countries can show their boys dying, if they want ... I just ask, Why?

It's not about our soldiers dying ... I have been there ... it's about showing their deaths for ratings. Then getting out of there is another issue.

You last soap-box comment isn't worth a comment. I have sacrificed ... lost men ... so don't step to me with a comment about sacrifice. BTW, I tasted the fuel in my mouth on 9/11 .. I was there, too.
