actually they were nom'd in 2005 for writing but other than that, yeah... they get nothin.

Dude I was just thinking the same thing! How different is it that summer movies now have recognizable characters instead of just recognizable actors. So instead of a nameless no idea, Bruce willis or Nic Cage flick that has a 100 million dollar budget, we have Batman or iron man, whatever? He really is such a music and movie snob. speaking of this, I am in the middle of Ben Hur right now. I saw the first disk last night, am watching the second one tonight. never saw it before, and I'm 38.
I'm a sucker for those 50's and 60's epics. My faves are 10 Commandments, Zulu, Lawrence OF Arabia.
but the re-makes are usually god awful.
Question: Has there ever been a remake that was better? I honestly can't think of one off of the top of my head.

Lawrence of Arabia was the first dvd I ever owned. still one of my favorites. I saw it on the big screen a few years ago, one of the local theaters around me had a screening. you *have* to see it on the big screen.
the one thing that bothers me about the movie (ok, FILM) is now when I watch it, I can hear Jimmy Norton in my head saying "it's hot. we GET it."

i still prefer the original, but the re-make was enjoyable.

Those scenes as he crosses the desert are some of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen in a film. Thank Gvac that Freddie Young won the Academy Award for cinematography that year.

I had a friend who ran a kitchen in a restaurant, and he had an issue with the wait staff and the bus boys stealing the corn starch from the kitchen and leaving it in the employee bathroom so people could use it when they got swamp ass. He got them back by swapping it with powdered sugar.

They have applewood smoked bacon dipped in dark chocolate at my butcher shop. I have to make a concerted effort not to buy some every time I go to the counter.
