How can something so small cause so much irritation? This year seems to be a banner year for the little flying devils.
We went out an bought one of those propane fueled killing machines, they work great but they bring about their own unique set of problems. The 2 worst being the disposal of the carcasses that get collected in the reservoir... not where to put them, because we live in the bush, but how to get to the thing to empty it with out being sucked dry of every drop of blood in your body. I recently purchased one of those bug jackets which is like wearing a screen and it works pretty good but last night the bastards were biting me right thru the mesh!
The second problem is the fan that sucks the victims to their death in the trap. Because it is essentially a contained flame, the housing gets very hot so when they get sucked in in great numbers they eventually build up on the inside of the housing causing the fan to stop turning ( and make an awesome sickly sweet frying flesh smell as well). No fan = no suction, so instead of being drawn in to their death, they now just hang out in one area just waiting for us to leave the safety of the house so they can have a feast at our expense.
Someone told me today to store the bug jacket in a ziploc bag and spray it with bug spray so it will help to repel them, as for the skeetervac, I think I will have to get out the dremel and see if i can trim about 1/4" off the fan blades. I have already been using the wire brush attachment to clean out inside the housing but that only lasts about a day.
Anybody have any remedies to try and alleviate the mosquito problem? Or something to stop the incessant itching from the kajillions of bites I have.
I am also looking for blood donors...I am O+, I think I am down a couple of pints!
