Good call. After Friday's show I was rocking to Traffic all after noon. On Saturday I went to my dads place and asked him if he wanted to share some Makers Mark and Listen to his Vinyl. Biggest smile I have seen on his face in years.

I almost fell out of my chair when Dave said he hadn't heard of Traffic. I bought John Barleycorn Must Die on CD a few years ago and still listen to it regularly.
I went on big kick buying great albums from the 70's--Music From Big Pink, Quadrophenia, Nashville Skyline, A Nod's as Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse by the Faces. Some of the best albums i've ever heard.

We Listened to Music From Big Pink too! Dave was lying though. They played Low Spark a year ago in Feb. http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56874&highlight=Low+Spark+High-Heeled+Boys&page=3

I agree. I think there will be a lot of repeat viewing of Dark Knight, but not nearly with the numbers that Titanic could achieve.
can't wait to see the movie - the lines at the uptown theater in dc were crazy over the weekend - hoping to go wed night.
And I think that is why the Saturday numbers were lower. People were daunted by the long lines and ticket sellouts Thursday night, Friday, and a lot of Saturday.

No kidding. I don't know why some people think they can only like one. The '89 one has dated somewhat and it's more a Tim Burton Joker movie that guest star's Tim Burton's Batman, but it's still a ton of fun to watch and Jack is great in it.

Ron is right. You can't escape the inherrent homoeroticism in superhero comics. The women are such obvious window dressing for a bunch of muscle-head guys who just want to fuck the shit out of each other, and Batma and the Joker are right at the top of this. This movie, however, makes Batman and Harvey the great unrequited love story...they wanted to caress each other's sweaty bodies so bad.

I didn't pick up any of the homoeroticism that Ron was talking about and you're piggybacking on. Agreed, the Dawes character was weak and there's a pattern of weak women in comic book movies. I just think you're stretching it waaaaay out with your take. I guess I wasn't actively looking for gay themes in the film, not really my priority when I watch movies.

I don't see the gay thing either. Also as far as weak women go it depends on the movie. For Hellboy 2 Del Toro actually made it a point that Blaire act less dependent

It's not just this movie. It's comics, period, and I say that as someone who lives and dies by comics. They're gay as fuck. Women exist only as over the top sexual beacons that seem to scream "LOOK, THEY'RE NOT GAY!!!" or only as victims as betrayers. Women are only there as obvious sexual counterparts to the rampant gayness or to be shallow and evil or cheap emotional touchpoints when they get put into danger or murdered.

I can see the gay thing with batman and robin, but not all comic book characters. tights, capes, and knee-high boots are very manly.

I'd recommend a book called "The Ten Cent Plague" to explain why comic books are the way they are. They did try putting mature themes, including sexuality, into comic books in the '50s, and those guys got crucified. So the only comics that survived were superhero books, with clear morality -- and no sexuality.
I don't think comics have quite recovered, at least not in the mainstream.

true, but as was mentioned by someone (GVAC or Hottub) in the movie thread,
I'd bang the Maggie that was in The Secretary.

Without a doubt, but in everything else she looks like Droopy Dog.
I'm currently reading The Watchmen, in anticipation of the movie, and that story makes all of this talk even more interesting.

But we're talking about comic book movies here, and specifically Dark Knight in general. Comics are geared, mostly, to young virgins. The female characters are weak and all have great big tits. I was just saying that I fail to grasp the homoerotic undertones you claim run rampant in Dark Knight. Maybe if I saw it again and looked for that it'd be different, but I doubt it.

Great book, but I'm not sure what you're talking about with "sexuality." It was the same thing...women were always victims or betrayers or blatant sex objects. That's it.

It's a bunch of egomaniac men who basically just want to fuck themselves, so when a version of themself comes along, they're inherrently lustful of it. They were pounding us over the head with how Batman and the Joker were just flipsides of the same coin. They hate each other because of how much they desire each other, and vice-versa.
Comics are just gay.

I've been saying that for years -- why would you possibly care about how much money a movie makes? Do you see any of that money? No -- you were the dumbass who shelled out what, $10 bucks, to see that piece of shit movie.

If you can't brown bag a beersk on a MTA subway train why do they sell beer's at in the subway deli's etc in NYC? Never understood that, they're tallboys, they're on ice, and they come with brown bags ready to go and being sold practically in the lobby just before you hop on a train? Yet it's illegal to drink them on the train.

Where the fuck are you getting this shit about the training aspect of soccer? When the fuck did I mention anything about that or about NASCAR? Christ. My point was that it would be a better conversation for the target audience, who is much less familiar with soccer than they are with the "big four" and other popular sports in N. America, if we excluded soccer. Of course the prestige position in the world in sports would be in soccer, it's by far the most popular sport. Ronnie did the right thing and acknowledged soccer and F1, but then steered the conversation towards the more relevant, fertile ground of US sports where the audience would be able to provide many more examples.

What really sucks is that TV coverage of the Olympics has ruined the games for most Americans and made it a non-event.
All the coverage being USA-centric is ridiculous. NBC will cut away from the finals of an event to watch some schlub from the US place 43rd in hopscotch. And they generally just show highlights on the main broadcasts leaving the rest of the coverage to pay-per-view (in the past) or a sub-network (like USA Network will be this time).
In a time where National Pride is arguably at an all-time low, the Olympics are going to be a TV ratings blunder.

And I agree with you to an extent. It was a lot easier when there were 4 choices and you watched whatever they gave you to watch. However, the poor coverage has certainly put a damper on the response of the general public.
And I don't have anything to back up my points because they are largely based on the memory of articles, complaints, etc. after the last few Olympic games. It just seems that if the Olympics were presented as an International Event rather than "let's showcase how great the US is" then people would like it better. It is OK to have a US slant to coverage, but to virtually ignore the international flavor of the event is kind of ridiculous.

Will the next caller named Joe PLEASE tag Ronnie's line "Hey Joe, where you going with that phone in your hand?" with some attempt at a joke that follows up on the lyric?
eg: I'm going to call my old lady. I caught her texting another man.
or something funny.
edit. Damn I type slow.

So is leaving your family with thousands and thousands of dollars in debts.
It's so ridiculously cheap, comparatively speaking, that there's no excuse to not get it.

true; however it's when you are concerned about your family.
(or a whole life, which is also a savings plan)

I've always heard that whole life insurance is kind of a scam: you can just buy a term life policy and then put the money in savings that are much cheaper and pay better.

scam is a strong word.
you'd have to crunch numbers-its possible you can buy term and set up a savings policy to offset payments and save money, but that doesn't make it a scam. It's like setting up your weekly deductions so that you owe (a small amount of money) to the IRS, and then pay with savings vs. putting down less deductions and getting money back from IRS at end of year.
with whole life you actually stop paying at some point as well.

The Cardinals are one of those teams where the problem is the owner, and there's nothing you can really do about it. When that's the situation, it's such a miserable experience, and it's hard to stay excited about the team.
I'd say the overall worst team to be a fan of is the Chicago Blackhawks. Their old owner -- who died recently -- wouldn't even allow home games to be on TV.

Basketball (NBA): Best -- Los Angeles Lakers
Worst -- Atlanta Hawks

Pirates as the worst or all time? They won two series in the 70's. I'd say before they moved the Expos.
Although being a giants fan isn't easy.

Not the pirates.
Cubs would be worse than Pirates; remember they pirates had the "we are family" teams.
not Expos either; they had winners in late 70s-early 80s

I think that image of Shockey sullenly boozing it up in a luxury box during the Super Bowl pretty much ended his time with the Giants.
Shockey enjoyed the Super Bowl. Didn't you see him drinking in the luxury box during the game?
