Dear Great Oracle,
When will man evolve again? I mean, these days, we have clothing. Is it really still necessary to have pity hair, arm/leg hair, and pubes for warmth? Im getting tired of having to shave.
let me know
Ur pal,

Everyone sees evolution as this process of making species better, but that's not necessarily the case. It's just a series of mutations/changes over time that somehow work for the survival of that species, but aren't necessarily "improvements". Some species die out not so much due to the fact that they evolved poorly, but just shit luck. I mean, who knows what dinosaurs would have become if some big-ass asteroid hadn't smacked into this planet 200 million years ago. It's not that other species evolved that are 'better" than dinosaurs: they just had bad luck.
It would be interesting, in the long run, to see how humans do evolve. I think we've reached a point where, for the most part, there aren't any real challenges to our survival (well, unless you live in, say, Somalia), so if mutations/changes pop up that aren't necessarily better for "survival", they won't be filtered out of the gene pool so quickly. But it's a long process. We're talking millions of years here. Don't expect to see any major changes in your lifetime. Unless, of course, another big-ass asteroid smacks into this planet. And there are days I'd like to see that.

....
More like ... 65 million years ago ... dude, the Cretaceous Period ended with the asteroid, as is evidenced by the discovery of iridium at the K-T Boundary in sites worldwide. "K-T" stands for "Cretaceous-Tertiary" and marks the boundary between the end of the Cretaceous period and start of the Tertiary era in the fossil/sedimentary record.
200 million years ago is roughly the start of the Jurassic Period. Which, in terms of proliferation, was probably one of the most diverse portions of the dinosaurs' "reign" as alpha critters on this planet, but it doesn't mean they didn't live past 200 million years ago.
Incidentally, the prevailing theory among paleontologists nowadays is that modern birds evolved from saurischian dinosaurs, so we are actually seeing what dinosaurs became whenever we see a pigeon, finch or ostrich.
(But, hey, I wouldn't expect a regular Joe Schmoe on the street to know that.)

A small example of us evolving is our thumb strength. Because of texting and personal video games the human thumb is stronger and more flexible than our parents. Some day the thumb will rule the world.

Perhaps the next evolution will be the ability to not be a fucking asshole with relative ease.
