Im listening to yesterdays show and a guy calls in to ask Frankln if he has to be there everyday.

Who are these people that have to call and post whenever someone other then Ron and Fez have an opinion ?

I'm not a total homer if there is a discussion or a guest that I'm not in to I just skip thru it.

But still why do you think I/we care if the show isn't to your liking?

*shrug* It's kind of gone on for the entire duration of the XM Show. I'm not singling out the XM fans. It's just at that point when the show went national and the web presence really exploded (multiple websites devoted to the show, listening thrrads, etc.). At that point, just about anyone who came into the studio, be it a booked guest or a friend of the show, would have their detractors on the message boards. It sucks because it makes the whole of us on these boards look like a bunch of complainers (one bad apple...blah blah blah), but message boards are a forum for people to discuss their opinions, so it's inevitable. Also, the sad truth is that being angry, upset or annoyed by something on the show is a greater motivater to sign up for a message board and start posting than being entertained is.

I'm not going to say it's justified, but I understand it a little bit.

Ron & Fez at times can be a very inside show, because of the closeness with the New York fanbase, and knowing a lot of people personally from bar nights and friendships and what not, and the PalTalk aspect.

If you're some guy in Cleveland or Chicago or St. Louis who tunes in one day and hears them doing a bit you think is funny, and then tunes in the next day and they're talking about HTG and Sheepy or Fred from Brooklyn fighting with someone on PalTalk, you're going to be a little confused as to why they're spending so much time on it, because you have no frame of reference for it.

In terms of what was being referenced with Franklyn, my guess is that there's two schools of thought in terms of people bitching about him

1) People don't understand that he's a friend of theirs, so they don't understand why he's there.

2) People get jealous of the fact that he's essentially a listener who can come in when he wants and get time on the show (what people don't understand about that is that as far as I know, Ron & Fez kind of have an open door policy with listeners, so people can visit the show if they want).

I'd say that's it in a nutshell. Again, I'm not saying it's justified, but I can understand how someone who listens casually can be annoyed by it.

i dont think the franklyn thing is about jealosy over airtime. probably most fans (like myself) have no desire to be on the air, i for one would panic. i think its that alot tune into the show to hear the funny people on it...allthough franklyn may have stuff to offer and is a smart man...he comes off somewhat monotone and doesnt really offer any humor

just my take

I can tell you've been hurt
by that look on your face, girl.
Some guy brought sad into your happy world.
You need love, but you're afraid that if you give in,
someone else will come along
and sock it to ya again.

One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Oh, give it one more try before you give up on love.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl.
Oh, I don't care what they say,
I don't care what you heard.

I could make you happy, baby,
satisfy you, too.
But how can I if you won't give me a chance
to prove my love to you?
Won't you just give me one chance?
I'll give you my guarantee that you won't be hurt again.

One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Oh, give it one more try
before you give up on love.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Oh, I don't care what they say,
I don't care what you heard now.

I've been noticing you, baby,
for a long, long time.
And I'm not ashamed to tell the world
that you really messed up my mind.
Girl, to me you're like a dream come true.
I'd rather hurt myself than to ever hurt you.

One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Oh, give it one more try
before you give up on love, girl.
One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.
Oh, I don't care what they say,

I do think the "inside" nature of the show is a bit of a double-edged sword: it makes the show feel warmer and closer to its fans than other shows, but it's a bit off-putting for others. I mean, I like the feeling that you could, possibly, be someone mentioned on the show a lot, and maybe even get mic time. But I can see getting tired of certain people (who could it be?)

I know, for my part, I am really leery about how this "Brooklyn roundtable" thing today is going to go. That could just be awful.

Can't be any worse than the Board Unity show they did that one weekend. That was just uncomfortable, and not the British Office good kind of uncomfortable, especially when Anthony made his appearance to rail on how he hates message boards people, yet posts on them constantly.

People are jealous & xenophobic, and it's really easy to be a tuff guy on a message board.

From personal experience, I've noticed that Ron and Fez's attitude towards a guest will SOMETIMES control how posters respond. If RnF enjoy something you do, you're on top, and listeners treat ya w/ some modicum of respect. If RnF throw ya under the bus, people will write about ya, email ya, it's pretty annoying. After my club soda cunny episode, I began to block people on the boards for the first time cuz they were really getting outta line, and on some level they must think they are entitled to do that. I guess some people are just pathological and filled with hate and can't wait to express it.

THEN there are people who just HATE EVERYTHING, I don't understand why these kinda folks even listen. The expanded, decentralized XM audience has brought w/ it a lotta these types, who call and post, and once again it goes back to the tuff guy routine, they are couched in safety when they call or write, but they never have the guts to say anything face to face!!!

It's the price of success, ya play to a bigger audience, ya get increased proportionate quantities of good and bad listeners/posters... & negativity draws a lotta attention, just ask a 2 year old...

I blame the irish, black, cuban, native american, white conglomerations.

I can understand not liking people on the show. But people seem to overreact. If you don't like something; state your opinion, back it up with some reasoning, and add maybe what you would rather hear more of.
The simple "this sucks", "he sucks" posts are pointless.
While, I don't love Franklyn on the air, he does add a slightly different dynamic. Ron needs a knowledgeable straight man. ESD brings a lot of cultural knowledge, but his responses are always over the top. Fez is closer to the straight man, in a comedic sense, but he doesn't have a great breadth of knowledge. So, Franklyn, as monotone and boring as his deliver can be, he does add something.

I felt this wrath for a little bit. People would call in and talk about how much they didn't like me, without realizing that I was the one screening the calls. It sucked those times.

You can't keep people from having opinions. Ron and Fez are awesome because they include the listeners and the fact that they call to say they don't like someone who is talking on the show, sort of shows that they are comfortable with it. People aren't scared of the show cause they know that they aren't trying to be all celebrity and we are untouchable type thing.

I have written this very thing in another thread. As for the topic at hand, some people are AWFUL on the radio and ALWAYS there. And I don't mean awful in that good, entertaining way, I mean fucking awful. For those claiming jealous attitudes, I think for only a few it may be true, but for most it's simply not wanting to turn off your favorite radio show bc it turned into an inside conversation for people who really need lives.

sometimes some of the stuff talked about has been a bit over my head but still entertaining. After a while you get to know enough about the regular on air people that even if you're not a true "insider" you can enjoy it (at least I do). I'm sure it helps that I'm in the Northeast and am fairly familiar with New York but either way. Best Of's can be a great way for new listeners to catch up on things, lots of great stuff I've caught in best ofs including explanations for some things.

The only question I've had is what some of the regulars (non xm employees/interns) do for a living that they can be in the studio 12-3 on weekdays so regularly. I only know that one of the Brooklyn guys (Fred I believe) owns a construction company.

Either way, it's all good to me.

fezlovr
07-25-2008, 04:39 PM
The reason I questioned why Franklyn had to be on the show every day is that the studio is getting overrun with "guests".
I miss the dynamic of Ron & Fez and Fez is getting pushed out the frickin' door!

The entire time the Brooklyn boys were there today, Fez may as well have been taking a nap.

I am an old-time listener from the Ron & Ron days and just enjoyed hearing Fez's Catty moments, Fezitorials, Nature Boy, etc....

I can sense that Ron is tired of carrying the show and has given up on trying to "bring Fez back", so he relies more on his "behind the scenes" people, but I think it is having the opposite effect on Fez. Fez isn't saying to himself"I'll be damned if I'm going to be shoved out the door". He's letting it happen and it is making the show drag.

A year ago I LOVED O & A and R& F was just nice to have on after O & A signed off. About 6 months after that, O & A had grown weary to me and I couldnt wait until noon to hear R & F! Now it's turned from a funny, intelligent, broad-based show into a "Very special episode" guest-starring everyone that has ever been to a Bar 9 event.

All I am saying is the excitement is gone and I want it back. No one can tell me that Frankyln brings the excitement back to the show.

I'm not jealous of anyone that gets airtime on the show, but I also don't think that everyone that comes in necessarily lends anything to the show.

I live in Jacksonville Florida and will probably never get a chance to meet R & F or O & A and go to a Bar 9 meet and greet, I love the show, I love RonFez.net and I like everyone that posts here.

I want my old Fezzie back!

I agree about how his voice is grating. I think Franklyn's problem is that he has a powerful radio voice. Most O&A and R&F listeners have grown to hate that "typical" DJ voice. It comes off as a radio voice, not his real voice. I am not saying it is not his voice. It just reminds me, and maybe others, of the wacky DJ voice.

It's not just that he's on the show EVERYDAY.

It's not just that he's on the show EVERYDAY.

It's that he must think he has something fresh and interesting to offer every single show.

Ego or delusion?

Lots O' folk complain about Dave edging Fez out of the picture...

but at least Dave is entertaining.

Cut Budday Franklyn a check already.

I mean...he gets more airtime than Mr. Whatley.

Yeah, I don't "get it" either.

With his postings and video work on the Lilly photoshoot, Dave and Earl basketball, and the Guy Guyerson/Simon Simonson film piece; I always liked when Franklyn came to the show UNTIL a hidden camera expose by Big A caught this on video...(now I can't stand him.)

Big A really dished the dirt on Fez a week or so ago.....and is becoming a powerhouse of media interest, probably needs a one-shot podcast.

Perhaps. But I don't think he would get too much accomplished in an hour. He may need a little more time.

I really dont get why hes on the show everyday. Its cool for him to be an actual black guy v. earl but...yikes it gets old fast.

Normally I wouldnt whine about the show besides earl but does franklyn need to be on the show everyday? I love how ron works the room and brings in guests but I really cant stand hearing that deep plimpton voice every time the show is on.

I had been a casual listener from the New York days. I dont miss a minute of the show now, and I have to say that the fun of it is to put myself in Ron and Fez's hands and just let them take me where they want to go. Their show, their guests, their idea of what makes for good radio. If it didnt work I wouldnt listen. For me it works. I love having people stop in,getting to know them and then fitting them into the family.

Was it as good for you as it was for them?
