what percentage of your take home salary do you spend on your apartment?

(rent, utilities, cable, internet)

i recently got a raise and am trying to figure if its smart to upgrade the apartment...

"As a young female artist, I really love living in this East Village loft. Oh, that must be our new landlord, Mr. Stingley!"

"Where is the rent? I must have the rent! Dollars, dimes and nickels, I need them all right now!"

there is no point upgrading, take the raise and put it into savings. stay where you are, unless where you live is a really bad shithole

I rent and have roommates, but I do 25% of my take home income. Rule of thumb is 50% max of your income to a mortgage.

Instead of upgrading your apartment, I'd up your 401k contrbution.

Maybe buy something nice for your ol' pal Zep.

Keep the rent as cheap as possible my friend, save the raise and put it away for a house...
a nice gift for you ol' pal Zep.

I'm in there at about a cool 30% for the time being...might be dropping a roommate for a while so I'll see where that goes.
