View Full Version : Really bummed out today

Today i just cannot this feeling of sadness.
Last Wednesday I had to get a biopsy (not fun) and then Friday I wound up in the ER for 10 hours with heart palpitations and trouble breathing (they're not sure what caused it).
Last night I saw Elvis Costello and The Police at the PNC Arts Center with my best friend. It was GREAT and I had an awesome time. But on the drive back home, I started feeling a little meloncholy.
I thought about the last 25 years and how idealistic I was as a teenager and even a college student. I had SO much hope and a feeling of excitement about the future would bring.
Well, at 41, I'm feeling like life hasn't quite turned out the way I wanted it to. I'm in a MUCH better place than I was, say, 3 years ago. I have a job that I really like (that i hope I can hold on to for as long as possible). I'm paying my bills and even have money in the bank. I have really good friends but I'm not interested in romance (which is a good thing for b/c I can really focus on what I want out of life). I own my apt but things would be better if it weren't for my neighbor.
i dunno, maybe I'm just being too reflective today.

These days happen and usually your radio/ipod is an asshole with the random selections. Keep your chin up because all of us sans one man can say "hey at least Im not hippo."

i often feel the same way
i have a good job, money in the bank, saving up for a house, an awesome wife
but i dont fel content with just being what i am
i feel like there's a bigger purpose for me or us as humans on this planet and not just be a schlep worker in a unimportant job just to make money and survive to eventually die
i have as of yet not found what that might be, but i'm always searching
mostly i try to just make the thoughts go away or else i'll get to depressed

I know how you're feeling; we're the same age and pretty much in the same place.
To often I "reflect" on my life and think of the "coulda beens", but thats not helping anything. The best thing to do is focus on what you want in life (if you figured that out) and work towards it. It sounds like you've been doing that.
41 is a fucked up age, we're not old, but we're definitly not young anymore, so you begin to think life is passing you by. At this point in your life you thought you would have a spouse, family and finanical security, but you keep finding yourself starting over again.
The only thing you can do is continue to work towards your goals and try to have fun doing it.
I hope everything works out OK.

You might benefit from setting some new goals for yourself, to give you something to strive for and motivate you to take your life to the next level...
Also... whenever I get bogged down with negativity I remember some advice my mother gave me... whenever a negative thought pops into your head you should try to find a way to turn it into a positive... I find I do this on my own now and it has helped me to be a more positive person.

Hopefully this will pass. I think that you are a womderful person and I am glad that you are in a better place than before. I hope that when I am 41 I am as awesome as you and still have the guts to go see concerts with a severely bleeding vajingo.
I had a biopsy once and they suck so hard. Luckily they knocked me out for it. Oh god the drugs were so great that when i came to i was rambling like a mad man saying how my girlfriend at the time used to do underage porn (she did, but thats a different thread)
Any way, you can always count of me to make feeble attempts to cheer you up. Hug

OK Funkman - You're on my list!
I've said it before on this board and I'll say it again because I believe it is true. If you need to feel better about yourself, go do something nice for somebody else who needs it and isn't expecting it.

I find that excessive looking into the rear view mirror is never a good idea while driving. When you've caught yourself and put your eyes back on the road, you just can't shake this feeling that you're a shitty driver who shouldn't be on the road and it's amazing you haven't wrecked the car so far.
Then you forget all about those thoughts and self-recrimations, and you get right back in the driver's seat and act like you're the A#1 hotshit driver of the century. Usually the vital ingredient is time and giving less of a shit about getting on your ass.
This happens every so often. Rinse, spit, repeat. It don't make ya a bad person. I think it might actually make you every person.
