Names of over 24,000 OSS agents from World War Two to be declassified (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jUNOHxDTQoehoT3FAda6jBvSN4uQD92HQ5O80)

Among the more than 35,000 OSS personnel files are applications, commendations and handwritten notes identifying young recruits who, like Child, Goldberg and Berg, earned greater acclaim in other fields — Arthur Schlesinger Jr., a historian and special assistant to President Kennedy; Sterling Hayden, a film and television actor whose work included a role in "The Godfather"; and Thomas Braden, an author whose "Eight Is Enough" book inspired the 1970s television series.

Other notables identified in the files include John Hemingway, son of author Ernest Hemingway; Quentin and Kermit Roosevelt, sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, and Miles Copeland, father of Stewart Copeland, drummer for the band The Police.

This is a really cool, interesting story, and its good that a lot of these people are finally getting their due. I would love to go through those files myself to see just how extensive our intelligence ops were during the World War Two

RIP Wild Bill....

My wife just finished an excellent biography on Julia Childs that included her work in the OSS. I could get more information on the book if you anyone is interested.

Sterling Hayden, a film and television actor whose work included a role in "The Godfather";

He debriefed a thousand young punks.

I thought it was well-known that Miles Copeland was a spy, and for long after WWII?

Isn't it odd that some names just fall out of use, primarily because something undesirable is named it?

Kermit isn't used because of Kermit the Frog.

Adolf isn't used because of Hitler.

I'm sure there are others, if not now then in the past.

I smell shenanigans...Quentin Roosevelt was killed by the Germans in 1918 (which pretty much killed his father), and the OSS wasn't formed till 1942

I'd heard it before too. Why is this a big story now? Was it because they released the details were released?

The Julia Childs book is actually an autobiography - "My Life in France". I hear good things about it but I don't think it covers much of her OSS experience.

The article says "sons of President Theodore Roosevelt", although its probable that is is Q2
