Dr Steve, just like most kids mine have a tendency to pick their noses and have been known to (sorry for this folks) eat the little treasures they come up with. I'm just wondering, just how bad is this nasty habit ?

Boogers are just dried nasal mucus, mixed with a little nose hair and dust. They're salty so kids like to eat 'em. It's gross, but it's not bad for you, other than socially. When the other kids point and yell "BOOGER EATER!" it's a problem. My kid still loves to eat his boogers, but he hides under the covers of the bed to do it. If I walk into his room and his head is covered by the sheet, I know he's eatin' buried treasures. In another 8 years he'll be beatin' off, so I guess for now I can stand it.

Like I said I was debating whether to start a new thread for this one or not. Seeing the "Eating Boogers" thread title next to my name makes me question why I didn't do it myself.

I sort of knew what the answer was going to be, I just wanted to be able to show an official opinion on the subject to my wife. She caught my 11 year old doing it last week and when she told him it was disgusting and asked how he could do it, he amazed me when he shut her up by saying "it's an acquired taste"

Just let your kids know about how nicknames can stick. It's been 30 years since a girl I went to school got her nickname, and to this day, some people still call her Booger Hook Winslow!

It is, and it isn't even really a defense...it's more like a statement of fact.
