on showtime "Fall from Grace". Started at 5. Watching it makes me think how great Ron is
When Ron interviews her, he treats her kindly and makes her make an ass out of herself. Its hilarious.
With this documentary, they treat this guy (Fred Roper, family head) and his family like they are dangerous scary people who are the example of evil and heartlessness. Its super-serious. But in a way, I feel like its giving to much weight to these psychos. By having a serious tone, its making it like they have a serious message.
I just think its brilliant that Ron goes the other route, has a playful silly interview with this crazy bitch and turns them into clowns that we all laugh at. Its so much more effective at showing who these people are instead of playing serious music and interviewing a professor of religious study analyzing what they are saying like it actually means anything

God has hate in his heart, but a good sense of color use.

I watched on on HD as well and you're right; the signs we very cool other than the messages ont them. They talk about not worshiping false idols, athletes etc and I saw one of the church members wearing a Coco Crispjersey...in chruch. I realize they're crazier than shithouse rats but they do have the ol freedom of religion thing behind them. I'm home sick with a fever and damn near wept openly when they did the bit about the younf girl who'd lost her husband. I really liked that the biker dudes did with their engines to drown their crazy asses out.

if there was a rockumentary with Michael Phelps and Mr. Roper from Threes Company, it would be totally sweet. Maybe Michael Phelps could live with two chicks and has to pretend hes a gay

He doesn't need to pretend.

I wish more people would do what Ron does, and just let the nutjobs talk. A person that crazy and hateful will always destroy their own reputation with their own words. There is no need to act like a "holier then thou" or "I'm smarter then you" interviewer when all you have to do is let them be honest and tell everyone what they think.

This is precisely why Unmasked is oh so wonderful.

I just want to remind everyone that, while she may sound maniacal, you can not make your own interpretation of Biblical text any more valid than Shirley's. Maybe in your own head and with your own faith, but in the context of valid arguments any interpretation can be made "true".

Good point. I think the difference with her and her family and most people of faith in this country is that she gets in your face and as legally as she can makes your life miserable if she disagrees with you.

Yes. Another reason why any who believes in the bible is ignorant. The bible is only part of the story. The part of the story that a group of people decided to tell, not God, close to 400 years after Jesus' death. It is not God's word, it is not Jesus' word. So, even if you believe there is a God and his son died for sins, the bible is not the complete truth, if it is the truth at all.
Eh, whats the point.

Her take on politicians seemed pretty reasonable to me today.
I forget her exact words, but she basically called them all dirtbag liars and said that anyone seeking office was unworthy of support. Her road to get to that conclusion was probably far different than mine, but the destination was the same.

ABSOLUTELY!!!
I watched this thing about 5-6 months ago, but one of those chicks is really hot. She was sitting by the pool, just talking, and I thought to myself "Wow. She's kinda sexy, and she seems kind of normal". Then, like 20 minutes later, she was screaming at this protest, doing the God Hates Fags thing, and she didn't seem so sexy.
Ron's the best at interviewing her. Just treat her like a fucking dummy. I get angry when people scream at her and freak out. Why give a shit? She's just some nutty bitch. There's plenty of those on the planet.

The Shirley Phelps interviews are one of the things that really turned me on to Ron and Fez.
I initially started listening to XM 202 back in 2005 because of O&A (mainly because of li'l Jimmy) and would say "oh great" and change the channel whenever Ron and Fez were on.
Then I heard Ron interview Shirley, and marvel at the amazing way that he would allow her to hang herself. Letting her spew unopposed is so much more an effective way to render her helpless than engaging in any kind of argument or debate with her.....
That forced me to listen a little more carefully to what they had to say, and now I find myself hoping that I can catch Ron and Fez much more than O&A.....
I was hoping for the screech, car crash, or crunch and "oh good lord!" after the bastard child mention....
One thing I have noticed about the Westboro Baptist Church, is that the rest of the world is much more interested than the United States is....

That might be because we act like other countries are full of religious nuts and that running a government based on religion is stupid. But, in our own country religious fundamentalists are gaining power within the government. We think that Muslims have crazy practices, but our country is full of people doing crazy things in the name of Christianity.

True. That's why I belong to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I figure, if you're forced into a religion, you might as well get young pussy for it.
Is that so wrong?

Damn, I ended up spending almost two hours on YouTube watching the BBC rockumentary, and other "related links".
I understand that there are a lot of lawyers among them, and several that hold positions with the Kansas, County or City boards of corrections, and that the members give 10% of their income to their "church"... but I came away wondering where the rest of the money is coming from. Surely they're not doing this much travelling on their income or member donations alone.
I'd love to know who else is contributing to, or funding this "church".

I always figured it was because people just naturally like to point and say "lookit that"! We've seen em for years over here, and people are just getting wise to them overseas....
I thought most of America doesn't give a crap about the Phelps family because they are clearly bat shit loony, not because they have any particular influence.....

I don't think they have any real influence. But, they are Christians. There is no denying the power that Christians, even radical Christians have in the government.
I agree, people like to say "lookit that", without looking at the stupid shit they doing. So, we point at Muslim countries like they are idiots, without turning that finger on ourselves.

Louis Theroux rules. His weird weekend series is good (televangists). I just finished the brothel one and enjoyed it a lot as well. Most of his stuff it is on Youtube.
