A film with Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Jeff Dainels.....probably the best film I've seen about terrorism.....but nobody wants to see films about terrorism....we don't even want to think about how to deal with what seems like a problem with no solution....The international political situation for the US is a nightmare right now for the incoming President.
Is there a solution?

I knew this was going to be one of these films that was decent enough but gets released near the fall when all of the good Oscar stuff overshadows it's mild success. Have you seen it yet, Paul? Worth my time, while I count down the days until "Burn After Reading"?

It's a tight thriller that doesn't betray the complexity of the subject matter....I hope to have time to write more about it as it's release date approaches.

Russia is on the rise. They have been America's bitch for the last 15 yrs and are tired of it. An independent Kosovo against Russian wishes and NATO's expansion to Russia's borders that Clinton promised would not happen. Currently America has no military bandwidth left to project power in any meaningful way. See Georgia.

Also Russia is 'considering' selling it's advanced anti aircraft defensive system to Iran, which would cause great problems for any air strike against them, be it Israel or America. Of course Russia and Iran are not natural allies and Russia doesn't want Iran to have the bomb.

Pakistan is a failed state and America is making small scale strikes in it's territory. With or without it's permission.

Saudi Arabia fears Iran. They know that the only thing keeping them from being over run is American forces in Iraq. Neither Iran nor USA are strong enough to impose their political or military solution on Iraq, but both can stop the other from doing so. Saudi Arabia and Israel are unofficial allies against Iran and the Shia. See Lebanon and Syria.

God I love geopolitics!

Now, in the respect of the term you used, "tight thriller", are you talking in terms of acting, scriptwriting, camerawork, etc. ? It's also good to hear it's not a dumbed down version of a film on terrorism and things like politics, etc. I hate stuff like that.

Thanks debit for your little primer on geopolitics....and we all know that's just the tip of the iceberg.....
dre.....I think it walks the razors edge between serious statement and first class entertainment......
but the problem remains....no one wants to see a film on terrorism.

Hence why Chuck Palahniuk's real amazing novel: "Survivor" was never made, and instead we have Choke coming out, which I think could be great, (and I loved the novel, so I really do want to see how the adaptation is done), and think people will dig it, but it will never be as good as Survivor could have been. After 9/11, people just like to block terrorist imagery and films out of their mind, which is justifiable, but I mean, these are great films, can't let them be screwed over because of bad feelings.

They'd make Survivor if they could make it cheap but terrorism movies tend to be expensive.

In Boston it will be called Trader.

Oh, no doubt, but I still think it would get some sort "too-soon" labeling, and there would be backlash from some of the over-sensitive public.
