NHL 2K9 or NHL 09?

NHL 2k9 comes out next week. From the trailers I've seen (one of whcih is linked below) it looks like they made a bunch of graphical improvements from 2k8. I'm a huge hockey fan and this series has always mastered the realism of the sport, so this is a day1 buy for me.

93 for SNES with the if you are attacking the south goal, you do a wraparound and the goalie gets stuck everytime. Only 2 periods dude.

lol, SNES sports games were terrible. Mid-90's Genesis sports games were the best sports games of all time.

Wii port of this is suppose to be awesome, but I'm skeptical.

2k has put out some shitty games since Take Two bought them out from Sega.

I'm undecided on this one.I wasn't really disappointed with the games. it's all about realistic gameplay and 2k definitely has that. Being a fan, that's a must have otherwise the game is unplayable. The wii controls look amazing too, it's going to make for some heated confrontations with people swinging their wiimotes around trying to tap in a loose puck.

Last years game dominated and this is supposed to be better.

I played both the demos and 09 was definitely the better game. Something about using the right stick to shoot that really works with a hockey game.

I'm still not passing judgement from one review. I'm going to wait to get my hands on the full game (which came out yesterday) and then after experiencing the whole thing, I can make a judgement. I wouldn't trust an exclusive review either..

2K has the shot from right stick option also. I see both companies have the pass mapped to a shoulder button this year. My plan is to rent both then decide from there. The demos really left much to be desired. Neither company included enough to decide. I'll never understand brand loyalty when it comes to games. I want them both to do well enough that there continues to be competition, this exclusivity crap sucks for gamers. (I'm looking at you NFL)

NHL 09 is going to fucking dominate. 08 was insane, and this one has only improved.

This is the greatest hockey ever made. I can not stop playing it. I am playing be a pro mode right now and am loving the AHL action. Pick this game up if you dig hockey games

08 was amazing...best hockey game I've ever played....EVER.


I love this game too. Be A Pro is fantastic. Still toiling along as a rookie level Grinder...made it up to the first line on the Caps for about 10 games before i got shuttled down to the second line again

I'm bringing this thread back because over the past 2 weeks I've been playing some NHL 2k9 on Wii and it's a ton of fun. I'm loving the way that they implemented the controls here, the wiimote is made for shooting the puck and hitting, I love being able to push the wiimote to make a big hit.
I'd definitely recommend any wii owners pick this up and check it out.

I've been going through a love-hate relationship with NHL 09

I loved it when I first got it, then I hated it, now I love it again

Its not without flaws....I hate that they pretty much force you to go along with the new controls (you can't change lines with the classic ones), and it can be very glitchy at times (like when I select one defensive pairing to put on, it will put one on I didnt want out)
