i thought it was OK, not the best movie ever - not even the best movie of the year. It looked amazing, Jackson definitely got the perfect look and the effects were magnificent, good performances, but all in all I was very unfulfilled. i recommend it but i'm not sure if it will make my top 10. however i will say it didn't seem like 3 hours.

My God.
If you didn't like this movie, you deserve to have your eyes plucked from you skull. Cause you're incapable of enjoying the medium of film, and thus should never be allowed to witness another movie in your lifetime.
It got 3 stars in USA Today. 3 FUCKING STARS. If that was a real newspaper, I'd be offended.

I was really surprised with the movie. I did not know much about it and was not crazy to see it. But I am glad that I went since it was a great movie. The special effects and acting were great. I am actually looking forward to the next two now.

My god, this was awesome. Probably the best movie I've ever seen and definately the best book-->screen translation I've ever seen. I can't wait for the next two.
I did have one gripe, and I'll mention it without spoilers:
For those of you who read the book, were you bothered by how they handled the broken sword? I thought that was the only major plot point that either should have been done as it was in the book, or not be included at all...
It might be nitpicky, but I really don't think so...

I am a little wary to see it cause I never read the hobbit...I know, I know. I have lived in a cave for the last 20 years, and the only books available were Naval Tactics and Tank Warfare books by Heinz Guderian and BH Liddell Hart...I am meaning to read it. If it is as good as everyone says then I should have no problem reading..but should I see movie without reading books??

I saw it last night. Doogie dont worry I did not read the books either. I did know the story and the characters though. Even if you have not read the books you will enjoy the movie. The effects are good and the movie does flow. I am ready for the next installment.
Have a safe and happy new year. Let's hope next year is a whole lot better.<IMG SRC="http://www.toontracker.com/terry/mghther1.gif 100x300

Yeah yeah. I guess
Lord of the Rings was nice. But the Oscar definitely goes to Tim Allen for Joe Sombody! Good ol' family fun!

I think that they should have had a real midget to play the part of frodo. I'm not one of those civil rights guys, it's just that the movie would've been easier to goof on

Well Too Cute, I just saw Fellowship the other day and I gotta say it rocked...I never read the "Hobbit". Or knew anything about the world of the Hobbit, but seeing the movie kicked...I went and bought the books for the next two, that is how much I enjoyed it. Probably one of the best movies of the year

you really should also buy Fellowship because there's a lot more you get from readnig the novel than you can get from watching the movie and it will make TT and ROTK more sense if you read the Tolkien FotR first
