NY lawsuit claims 'Disturbia' copied short story 2 hours, 25 minutes ago

NEW YORK - A lawsuit claims Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures Corp. ripped off "Rear Window" when they made the movie "Disturbia." The 2007 thriller "Disturbia" stars Shia LaBeouf as a kid who spies on neighbors, including a man he suspects is a serial killer.

The copyright infringement lawsuit, filed Monday in Manhattan, says "Disturbia" copied a short story Cornell Woolrich wrote in 1942 and the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock movie that starred James Stewart and Grace Kelly and was based on the story.

Woolrich died in 1968. The rights to "Rear Window" were sold to Sheldon Abend, who died in 2003. His estate brought the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages.

Representatives for Spielberg, DreamWorks and Paramount said they don't comment on pending litigation

This will be an open and shut case. Disturbia came out LONG before 2 hours and 25 minutes ago.

I assumed that it was accepted as an homage/remake. I figured they had permission or had paid for the rights.

Why would it take so long? Even the trailers had Rear Window written all over em.

As soon as I saw that movie the first thing I said was it was exactly like Rear Window.

there are a lot of movies that are exactly like classic movies but get away with it

what first comes to mind is the movies "Airheads" and "John Q.", both movies are essentially "Dog Day Afternoon", but just changed slightly

Hell, A Bug's Life is kind of a kids version of Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven.

Yeah,I've heard that songwriters steal from each other too. This is very :help:disturbing. I heard that the singer doesn't always write the songs. Somebody even told me that :thumbdown:actors are just puppets without writers to put words in their mouth. That's just SILLY ! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a221/jlehane3/profile_headerseeSepiaBlueSpreeElis.jpg Elise Harris comedy on YouTube

"Airheads" is essentially "Dog Day Afternoon?" Both are fine films, but no.

Well Grace Kelly was only like twenty-four at the time.

Someone's gotta call this in as an Ichiban tomorrow.

Then an hour later someone else will ask Fez if he heard.

I was under that impression, also.

It took them this long to catch on????

they wanted to have their case completed, comparisons all done, all paper work checked and re checked before proceeding

"Airheads" is essentially "Dog Day Afternoon?" Both are fine films, but no.

think about it, they both take a place hostage (bank/radio station), bond with the hostages, have a big crowd that loves them outside. In Dog Day Afternoon the cop tries to get the crowd off their side by saying Pacino is Gay, in Airheads the cop does the same but by saying Fraser is a Nerd. Instead of chanting "Attica" in Airheads, they chant "Rodney King".

Fez is getting no peace with the downfall of all his ICONS in every sphere of influence. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a65/j3lehane/MERA_Bonneville_360_L256-A129R1B-7.jpg Here's a Mars Mammal to cheer him up. I haven't named the animal from Spirit rovers pics. DAVE :drunk:

Well it's about time! Ever since the first trailer I've thought it was a rear view rip-off. That young woman in disterbia is pretty smokin' nonetheless!
