I topped off this morning at $3.59/gal (I try to not let my tank get below half-full), and I saw prices ranging from $3.99 to $4.19 on the way home from work. I'm supposed to be driving to the beach next weekend. Good timing.

panic button has been smashed and the pumps are full till 10pm tonight in my town. Lowest we've found it is 3.68 and thats cause the manager said he will not be involved with the gouging of gas prices cause he will have to pay the fines IF they are charged.

highest we've seen so far, 4.99

Here in the home of the Massholes, I filled up my tank last night at $3.45/gallon. On the way home form work I noticed the price was up to $3.59/gallon.

I bet it won't go down as quickly. :wallbash:

People are lined up out into the streets at all the gas stations here. The local news led off with five consecutive stories about gas prices, then told people not to panic. I got two cases of beer and a decent takeout place that just opened around the corner. Fuck gas.

Are you kidding the oil companies are doing some of the most honorable work anyone in the global economy is.

They provide the life blood which allows for the world wide production and distribution of food and other necessities.

If oil companies were evil they wouldn't provide their product at the low price they do.

Guess what the Chinese and Indians will gladly pay $7.50 a gallon tomorrow and so will you and every other American.

Be glad the oil companies are out there doing what they do, otherwise you'd be living like the Amish do.

There's a couple of isolated gas stations here that have gone to around $4.00/gal, but the increases here have been rather limited. I paid $3.75/gal yesterday, which is up about 25 cents from what it was when I filled my tank last week.

We'll see what happens now. I don't think most of the gas here comes out of the Gulf, so we should be OK, but I'm glad I filled my tank

This is the first time I can think of when gas prices here have been higher than the national average. A few stations that were at $4.19 yesterday have gone down to $3.99 today. I'm holding out a faint hope that prices might settle down a bit by Friday in time for my beach trip.

BAAAA...BAAAAA..... We have no one to blame but ourselves. If everyone took a stand and bough less gas when it broke the $3 mark..this would never happen.

They can raise it to $10 a gallon and people will still buy.

Actually people did eventually start buying less gas in July and August. There has been a drop in demand over the last couple of months.

Just sayin'.

I'd love to, but my business requires gas and diesel to function, and a lot of people need to commute to work. Until there are alternatives, we're stuck. I'd pay twice as much on a fuel alternative, just to show the oil giants we don't have to use their crap anymore, but I have no choice.

The oil companies know they have us by our nuts. The only way out of it is to take back all of their tax breaks and subsidies, and make them spend their own money on research, exploration, and alternative fuels. Then watch just how fast the breakthroughs come in more efficient ways to gather energy.

You know what's disturbing about Bush's little speach, the only thing he/they can do is ease up some of the impediments of importing more foreign (gas in this case, not just oil), and have fed and state officials "monitor" the prices retailers charge - read that as we're ready willing and able to put "price controls" in the market. We all know how well price controls worked in the 70's/80's. I say don't get too excited about temporary spikes and let the market work it out, if there is a spike it will correct itself quickly. I still avoid stations that gouged in Katrina. That is an example of the market working. If more and more people stop buying later from a-holes that price gouge, they will change their behaviour or go out of business.

Yes their was a drop..but not enough. Remember when the truckers did the slow crawl on the highway..that was a good protest..they all got ticketed, which sort of sucks.

Exxon Moblie is the largest gas provider, they can set the price and make other companies have to match it. Maybe we should just not buy from their gas stations.

If everyone and I mean everyone in this country would not buy gas for one day..just one day that would change the price in a second. But to get everyone to do that is near impossible.

So I am just as guilty as everyone else, but I at least blame myself because I am part of the herd.

alternative (http://www.greasecar.com/) (supposedly not too rough if you have an older diesel - one of our engineers cars runs on this).

not buying gas (http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp) for one day will not have any impact.

I hate to even mention this, it could change big time by tomorrow. Gas here in my small to this a.m. was $ 3.39. We import all our gas from somewhere.

I've looked into biodiesel but we burn around 300 gal/week. I don't have time, the space, or money for equipment to do it on my own. I talked with the local biodiesel guys told about how much fuel I and other contractors burn, and they weren't interested in working anything out. I hate hippies. Thats got to be close to a 1000 gal a week sale they just lost.

The next thing to try is hydrogen cells. I know some folks who've had good luck building their own.
