View Full Version : Jay Mohr = Best Impressionist I ever heard in my life

I truly believe that statement.
I'm not that big of a fan of impressionists. I liked Anthony's impressions and thats just about it. Rich Little or Frank Caliendo bore me. But I think Jay is a genius.
Not only is his material funny as hell, not only do the voices sound spot on, but he also does people that no one else does. I wouldn't even know where to begin in making a Forrest Whittaker imitation, but Jay does Forrest and i'm like "YES! Thats Forrest!"
He is sooooooo good. Even his Colin Quinn impression is brilliant because most Colin Quinn imitations would be just a raspy voice, but he has the exact same sound of Colin's voice.
He is just great. I am absolutely constantly in awe of his talents.

nah ive heard a bunch, i just dont remember all of them cuz they didnt entertain me
i think they had one on last comic standing this season before i stopped watching
i don't think Darrell Hammond is anything special. Dana Carvey is good but i don't think hes as good as Jay Mohr's impressions on O&A today....Billy West is decent...i dunno, name some more impressionists, i'll check them out and judge them

He actually has done quite a few different ones during the various call ins and stuiod apperances he's had on O&A. I remember a quite hysterical bit Anthony and he did where one of them was Harry Carey and the other one was some other dried up sports caster who's name I can't remember. He accidentally broke into Little Nicky and that was pretty funny too. Seen and heard him do THE BEST Chris Walken around. I remeber he did a fairly good impression of some older actor on one of his comedy specials, I can't remember his name either and I wasn't really laughing at that part but it was pretty good.
That's just the few I can remember off the top of my head.

He did a sketch on SNL as Walken auditioning for all these acting jobs. One was Walken trying out for the part of Han Solo. Classic, I almost peed! I've loved him since. Oh, and the old actor he was impersonating at the end of his special was Buddy Hackett.

Kevin Spacey played Walken in that SNL sketch.
I like Mohr and think he's funny, but I'm just not wowed by his impressions.

I tend to think it's hacky, so I can't really think of any I'd pick over him because I'm not a fan of impressions, but Mohr's just didn't strike me as anything special.

so you have no appreciation whatsoever for impressions and you are saying jay sucks, i think most impressionists suck but Jay is special but you are saying I'm wrong

his impressions are awesome, but he has one up on most guys because he is fucking FUNNY. he is funny in his jay voice, quick witted, good material. and he brings that to his impressions which make they 100x funnier.
when he does colin quinn i fucking belly laugh. I will rewind the entire segment and listen to it again everytime

Really? Wow, I guess I just projected it onto Jay because he does such a good Walken. So I'm an idiot--nothing new.

I think he has the GREATEST Christopher Walken impression. I mean WHO thought of impersonating him? He started the trend.
I haven't heard his other impressions.
I saw him on New Year's Eve at the Boston Comedy Club (NYC) in 1995. WOW! He has SO improved since then!!!

regarding Kevin Pollack, I like him as an actor. "Usual Suspects", "Casino", i really do believe hes a fine actor and I'd pay to see him in a movie
with that said, if you ever saw his stand up act, he is the most hacky, painful stand up to ever make it big. He had a special on VHS years ago that was torture. Watch him in "The Aristocrats"....his act is so old and tired and obvious, I don't know how he ever had any success as a stand up in his career

I think our highly respected board member jayjay should weigh in on this.
Jay's not the best one, but the thing that's great about him is who he does.
Who the fuck in their right mind would do a Chris Penn or Tracy Morgan?
It's fantastic.
