I don't understand why he can't understand why there's hostility. Pretty easy, if science shows what you preach or believe in is not real then suddenly you lose your power or you realize you're entire existence was wasted and is for naught.

But as the Dr said, some people have adapted and said their Great Being was the cause of all and anything science discovers. "He" set all these scientific processes into motion so that the earth was created, the universe expanded, etc etc etc...

I had a pretty progressive (protestant) minister as a kid, who wrote a book that God may have actually been an alien from another planet....

Well, I think the alien thing was just a substitution for he's just an entity. I'm pretty sure God still created everything in his theory.

L Ron Hubbard?

Rev. Barry Downing, actually. He was a normal guy, funny guy, who preached the bible on Sunday, but when asked to speak about his personal thoughts, had no problem simply explaining how God may have been an alien. I went to school with his kids, very normal family as well.

There's all sorts of fancy religions out there that would be yah or nah on about every issue there is. The hostility Ron was referring to was from the Big 3, the ones that national states sign up for.

It's a shame. But his greater divine power who is the master scientist/creator is not gonna be the idea to sway those groups.

Any idea of the name of that book. Or the Authors name?

Yep. He's Dr. Barry Downing. And the book is The Bible and Flying Saucers.

Here it is on Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/Bible-Flying-Saucers-2e-Tr/dp/1569247455/ref=si3_rdr_bb_product)

and another link briefly describing his views (http://www.20kweb.com/weird_stuff/ufo_bible_connection.html)

a bit off topic, but this just occured to me over the weekend:

Evolutionists poke fun at zealots who say the earth is 6thousand years old, b/c we have evidence of dinosaur bones.

But what about the lack of evidence of any remains of what we call the "missing link"

Surely, if dinosaur bones and or tiny insects mummified in sap can be discovered millions of years later, surely we would have found ONE piece of bone evincing the existence of the "missing link".

Are we to just easily accept evolutionary patterns without proof thereof but then be chided for believing in a "god' likewise without proof?

We should create a Ask Dr. Green forum.

Who is Dr Green?

Ron made a boring topic like Quantum physics or whatever that was, seem like it was the most interesting thing in the world. I can never get enough of his interviews.

The fact that it was Dr. Greene actually helps a lot, too. His PBS show that Ron was referencing a lot is a bit esoteric, but I think most people could take a lot away from it about string theory and relativity. But then maybe i'm just a big nerd.

If anybody has Bender's Big Score--the first Futurama movie, there is a bonus feature with a professor who used Futurama to teach physics. It's a pretty cool thing to watch, and she explains a lot of inside math jokes on the show, too.

Announcer: And it's a quantum finish!
Farnsworth: No fair! You changed the outcome by observing it!

But what about the lack of evidence of any remains of what we call the "missing link"

There are plenty of dinosaur fossils because they're mostly found in ancient riverbeds or dried up swamps where multiple species dies because of floods or other disasters.

There has to be a special circumstance for ANY preservation of any type of species. What we have now is just a small, actually downright tiny, percentage of what roamed the earth in the past.

And there is plenty of hominid fossil remains that have been found. The whole "missing link" is just a term that the popular media of the time picked up on and has stuck. Creationist like to throw it around in their arguments but no legit scientist would ever use it because it is inaccurate. There have been remains found of out ancestors that exhibit both human and primate functions.
