On DC's WTEM radio, John Thompson has a radio show that is endless hours of dumb, mundane sports drivel about the local unsuccessful teams. It's idiot radio.

But, there was one wonderful, raw, real segment where Former Skin/Eagle Brian Mitchell, a future hall of famer, and the overrated, disappointing, mega ego-ed, diva Clinton Portis go after each other like they called each others' mommas bitches.

Refreshing radio from a surprising source.

Portis has to be in the top ten of biggest fucking assholes in sports. right after TO, roger clemens, and that steroid abuser from st louis that i have already forgotten his name, oh yeah mark mcguire.

I heard this the other day and it's pretty clear Portis has no clue he's talking to a man who holds 7 NFL records. I guess if you didn't go to 'the U,' than he doesn't want to know anything about you.

This is old news. Living in NJ I dont hear all the supposed bashing Mitchell does against Portis but it sounded like he was being critical of Portis for getting winded during the games. Portis didnt slam his o-line and you cant deny that he gives 100% effort in games. Other than Portis referring to himself in the 3rd person, Im with CP on this one. Brian Mitchell is a legendary return man but Portis will be the all time leading rusher for the Redskins when his career is over. I love the guy.

The whole gimmick as I remember or that ive heard of is that Portis was wondering openly something like "I wonder what it would be like to run behind the best offensive line or be in the best offence in football" or something like that, which Mitchell took to be a shot at the O line, and BMitch backs off from NOBODY...he's always been that way

Other than that? who cares...the Caps have been a MILLION times more interesting this offseason

I HATE living in a "redskins town" sometimes...only here does this stupid story become some giant, stop the presses, hold 2000 panel discussions on Washington Post Live and Full Court Press and "Redskins Bonanza Hoo Haa Sonny Jurgenson's Weekly Redskins Win Prediction Show" issue

actually it came about because Brian Mitchell was badmouthing Clinton Portis and his effort (yeah CP doesnt go all out what a joke that is) behind his back but to his face Brian Mitchell was nice to him and CP called him out on it.

Brian Mitchell is much like the rest of the former skins on the radio in the area they badmouth the team because they arent out there doing what the current players are doing. None of the former players want the redskins to succeed because that would take away from the legacy that those guys had. Its the same thing if you ever listen to Mark May he is the exact same way.

Clinton Portis is an awesome guy, and does great interviews, gives 100% on teh field, has set redskins records and when healthy has rushed for over 1,000 yards each year in DC and is probably the best blocking RB in the league.

Brian Mitchell while great had no where near the talent that CP has and is just jealous of it.

And this story is like 2 weeks old

And sorry El Mudo i love the Caps and Ovechkin is going to be the greatest player ever in hockey but what exactly have they done in the offseason to make them more interesting then the Redskins?

and btw some mod should probably just put this in teh 2008 redskins thread

Yeah. They would never make a big deal about this kind of thing in New York or Boston, those places are way too laid back for that.

The exact quote is this:

"could go to a team for one week with the best offensive line, or the team with the best scheme, and switch places with their back and see how others would do in this system."

If that's not a slam I don't know what is. He is basically saying it's not my fault it's the O-line's fault.

He seems to only take his foot out of his mouth long enough to put it right back in. Remember when he said dog fighting wasn't illegal?

-One of the most popular athletes in the entire history of DC sports left for Tampa (and with bad words for management)

-The Cristobal Huet backstab FA deal, and the contentious Iron Mike Green signings (caused primarily by his stupid agent)

-The Michael Nylander trade rumours

-Alexander Ovechkin's mad cap youtube videos of him on Russian gameshows featuring him dressed as in, respectively, a giant wolf suit, a giant shark suit, and a giant waiter suit (check em out on youtube, I can't link to them from here)

-4 words: Glam. Rock. Video. Shoot. (see youtube for that one too)

-Amazing exciting rookies/prospects (Kaptain Karl Alzner, Oskar Osala, Josh Godfrey, C-Bo, Simeon Varlamov)

And the fact that this team is good enough to contend for the Cup. Seriously.

Yeah. They would never make a big deal about this kind of thing in New York or Boston, those places are way too laid back for that.

Eh. Nothing gets more crazy than DC when stuff happens with the Redskins. Sorry NY and Boston (you're both baseball towns).

Ovechkin would have to bend Sidney Crosby over the boards and nail him for the Caps to have anykind of press that would trump the redskins

Im not saying that the Caps didnt have a big offseason far from it, but its just not news when compared with the redskins trading for Jason Taylor

Jason Taylor trade trumps everything the caps did in an entire off-season

Please dont take this as me bashing the caps its just this is a skins town - Hell the Gilbert Arenas deal didnt even rate more then a blip on the DC media nor did his surgery.

You had it right this is a redskins town, followed by a redskins town, followed by a redskins town, then the Wizards, then the Caps

Its just the way it is

I completely agree, and its rather unfortunate, but it is what it is

But if the craziness that surrounded the team last April/May is any indication, they will start to get a LOT more attention, and they have already (3,000 new season ticket plans sold this year)

Maybe i'm just too optimistic, but winning teams get attention and people in the seats...if they keep winning and Ovie keeps being Ovie, there will be something very special here (and it also helps that Ovie is NEVER leaving here, thanks to that 13 year contract extension, barring a Scott Stevens issue, but Ovie doesn't look like the type of guy that would get caught in a limo with an underage girl with 4 teammates)

Oh i have told my older brother that he needs to go down to see the Caps play, ice hockey in person is a great thing. And i told him he has to go because its a chance to see the greatest hockey player ever and the Caps have him for at least 9 more seasons

Ovechkin is Russian machine he will not break
