I'm happy that Jimmy got this opportunity (especially with Lemmy as DJ), but I'm a bit disappointed that he used that same joke about the fat receptionist with the wacky sign.

Kinda stinks that the eppisodes are only 1/2 hour each the comics don't get much time.

Hopefully HBO will order more eppisodes after the ones they have planed air.

I'm really trying to like this. The first two comics were pretty bad though.

Wow, it's weird to hear Lil' Jimmy plugging the Howard Stern show.

And, Jesus, Artie looks like hell.

And, Jesus, Artie looks like hell.

It's funny Stern wouldn't let Artie spit out Norton's name the other day, and Dice didn't even plug his appearance when he was on Stern (whenever the episode with him airs)

So far Artie has gotten the most applause (I actually like his comedy)

I liked all the comics but I think they needed more time for their sets. That said, I hope it catches on maybe they'll stretch out to an hour.

Agreed and my thoughts exactly about the time, a half hour special with the amount of comics they have is way to short

It wasnt good. It doest need to be longer either. Def Comedy Jam was only 30mins right? The comics just werent funny...including Florentine. Artie was okay. I felt like I heard every one of those jokes before. And what is the point of having Lemmy standing up there? For some reason I thought the comics would interact with each other like "Tough Crowd" or "Politically Incorrect." That would be better than a straight forward stand up comedy show.

well whats he suppose to do, "wing it"? Most people listening never heard that bit before (and i think its very funny)

i watched half yesterday (i dvr-ed it). I thought Jimmy looked like a very handsome boy on stage. I thought the first guy was funny and different and then i fell asleep during the woman. But I am definitely going to watch every episode of this show

I mean, the show is just a few comedians doing their act...there really is nothing to review. Some will be funnier than others and some may not be funny at all, but you know thats how it is with that show

Did anybody else go to see this in person? What was the name of the black dude who was the warm-up guy? He was really good.

I went to the first night where they taped the Dice and Patrice episodes, so I don't know if he was the same guy as the Artie and Bill Burr night.

But god damn, what the fuck happened to Artie Lang?

So I've noticed to be a "edgy" chick comic, you have to talk about how you like to slut it up... odd.

The new guy was very funny, the rest of the show was just eh'.

Artie looks like shit and can't talk anymore. Sad.

I'm pretty sure this was tapped before Artie went to rehab but I could be wrong.

You would be correct sir. It was tapped while he was on his heroin usage.

It picked up speed as the show progressed, and wasn't too bad. I think that an hour would help though, at least concerning the established comedians.

Florentine and Lang were good, but it felt a little too condensed; it seemed like they weren't able to build the same kind of momentum I have seen in their normal act.

However, if they went to an hour I would let Jimmy do a longer set and add one more comedian. If they went 10-12 minutes a piece it would be better than the 5-7 minutes they get (IMO).

Loved Jimmy, and unlike the rest of you all, i thought the shortness was good. Its meant to showcase new comics, and that kind of allows them to boil it down to their best stuff. I also differed from everyone else cuz i wasn't crazy about the new young guy. But I like the show. I hope its a hit .

Wtf? We disagree on the outcome, but I thought the half hour format was how it should be. I didnt love the first episode, but it'll get better. A longer show would mean you would hate the comics you dont enjoy for even longer.

Jim was a great host, and Artie was pretty great.

I think Anthony Jeselnek was the stand out of the night. Never heard of him, and he was fantastic.

I totally agree. Each time I check out some of Jimmy's standup, I'm always disappointed. His standup act comes off as too labored and contrived or something. I think he works much better when he's just kind of winging it on the air.

I didn't care for Down & Dirty, but I'm generally not a big fan of these "let's have a bunch of comics do 5-minute sets" shows. Comedy Central has been doing this sort of thing for years with stuff like Premium Blend. Oh, and I thought the interactions with Lemmy were painfully awkward and unnecessary.

Still need to catch Louis CK's Showtime special. It's still not on my On Demand, but Louie posted a bunch of air times on his blog, so hopefully I can catch it some time this weekend.

Either more time or few comedians on each show.

there is this kind of energy that "headliners" have that their opening acts don't. I can't explain it. But I felt it when Bill Burr and Patrice did their act. And i felt it when i saw Vos do standup a few weeks ago (compared to his opening acts). Its just, their demeanor makes the other acts seem so amateur. I can't explain it

Just watched the episode from 10/4, and thought Anthony Jeselnik was really funny - in a Mitch Hedberg kind of way. The chick was pretty funny, but Florentine was terrible. I hate to say that since he is Jim's buddy from way back, but I thought his delivery was really bad...Artie wasn't too strong either, in my opinion.

Wow - I think Jimmy is great on stage. The HBO special where he talks about going to Iraq was better (in my opinion) than the next one, but both are good. Every appearance on late night TV that I've seen has been hilarious, though. I have turned other people on to him, and they have liked him - but it takes all kinds. It is interesting to hear that people think he is more natural on the air. He does say it's easier to be on the radio.
