I feel personally victimize since I'm trying to change my life and can't.....I have a house I can't sell....I have to withdraw from investments when their value is at their lowest point....

I think a lot of people are over reacting. For the banks going under, guess what, another bank is going to take over. In my neighborhood I see three different new banks open, never saw or heard of them before. I am not worried about the banks. My pension I am a little worried about, and my few stocks.

While it's anxiety-inducing to hear about the financial collapse, and I have family in financial services, I'm confident that things will get better.

True, it stinks now, but so did the LAST recession ... where both of my parents lost their jobs, I had constant calls from collections agencies (who were violating the fair credit collections act by talking to me, as I was not the account holder) and at one point our phone was switched off ... and my flaky friends allegedly "couldn't find (me)" [although they knew where I lived, so they could've come by to see me. We are no longer friends.]

What I really give a shit about are the things that will still be there even if I am broke and jobless - my real friends, my family and my charity work.

I just had another Great Weekend with my 5th Avon Walk. Smiles, hugs, tears, 5,000 people caring about each other and something bigger than themselves ... all of that restores my faith in humanity.

Because, in the grand scheme of things, what do we have left if we don't have each other? Not much. Even movies suck without other people to share them with!

It's not so much a "nuclear family" as it is having people who won't run screaming from you when the shit really hits the fan.

Let's say, for shits & giggles, that you lost your job, the bank was foreclosing on your house and you'd just been diagnosed with liver cancer.

Whoever runs to your side, instead of running screaming in the other direction, is the person (or people) who will get you through the rest of the shit that's out there in the world.

They could be very close friends; they could be your immediate family. It doesn't matter except that they'll come when you need them ... and you'd do the same for them. I have friends I'd help commit several felonies because they'd do exactly the same for me. (Fortunately, we haven't needed to resort to crime or violence or anything like that. Yet.)

More like - what do I have the capacity to really take care of? Like - I have a deadbeat brother who, if he came crawling to my doorstep, I might leave out there for rats to eat rather than let him near my wife, child and dogs. I wouldn't be able to do anything for him and he'd only pull us under to drown too.

It's sad... and I'd give the whole world a baby bottle and rock it to sleep if I could ... it's a nightmare out there. But I can't - so fuck it.
