The thing is; if I had a company, no matter what type... I would always promote talent over nice behavior. Some things he says may not even be as rude as they are perceived... I have run into issues myself here cause I expect people to excel and do their best job and have very low tolerance for dumb, lazy and ignorant people. You either be assertive or just sit back and get nowhere, watching others screw up or do mediocre work. I think if he was so much out of line then they will handle it behind the scenes.

Mooch does great production, and if you listened they mostly agree with his criticism as well as he is very critical of his own work.


As for the "I am not here to be nice" attitude... I guess that explains why I have pretty much no chitter chatter water cooler buddies here at work. I do my job and am not here to discuss the latest gossip and make friends.

I agree with most of this. However, there's a difference between keeping to yourself and just doing your work (a category I definitely fit into) and being aggressively negative with the people you work with.

how often do they bring behind the scenes battles on air and make it entertaining... it seems there are always some people fighting for one reason or another... don't forget that a lot of the people working there are young interns with not too much skills and knowledge YET.
A person like Mooch may not have rank there (or a permanent position)... but he has skills and experience... so what if he comes across a bit rude... the moment they play "Cleaning windows" again everybody will miss him and want him back. I say teach the young kids that work life is not all cotton candy and bubbles... work hard and do your best, never settle for mediocre.

I don't think it is a European thing because I feel (and act) exactly the same way and I am not European. However, I will also admit that the USA has developed a culture of mediocrity that is infuriating. Employers put up with way too much poor performance, but employment laws and frivolous lawsuits from disgruntled (ex)employees have helped to make that possible.
