I've been an Obama supporter since it became clear that John Edwards wasn't going to get any traction in the Democratic Primary.

That said, I watched maybe a dozen or so Democratic Debates where I can honestly say Hillary Clinton kicked the shit out of Obama.

So it absolutely boggles my mind that McCain is so inept and so feeble and pinning Obama down on anything.

Because unlike France, Great Britain and the United States, the nuclear facilities these two countries have are Soviet-era style and are built to make plutonium, which makes bombs. Cheap electricity is just a side benefit.

Nuclear reactors here in the USA and other developed countries are designed to power steam turbines. They are not good at much else, and are a lot safer to operate then the nuke plants in Russia.

My 4th grade teacher used to tell us a story about how he and a buddy were driving cross country once and they came behind an 18 wheeler at an off-ramp and all of the sudden when they got close to it all the hair on their body started standing straight up. My 4th grade teacher used to tell us a story about how he and a buddy were driving cross country once and they came behind an 18 wheeler at an off-ramp and all of the sudden when they got close to it all the hair on their body started standing straight up. They got away from the truck and it stopped. Scary shit.

I kept a little running diary to see what candidate i side with more, just a little list of issues that felt important to me. Here's what I came up with:

I agree with John McCain on how he plans to fix part of the mortgage crisis by buying up bad mortgages and renegotiating them based on the current value of the homes.

I agree with Obama on his energy policy, how he values energy healthcare and entitlement in that order, his views on how we approach Bin Laden in Pakistan, his tax cuts, and lastly how he feels about world issues and conflicts such as Dafur, the Congo and Somalia.

I've been invovled in protest against Yucca Mountain. Not only it is short sighted, but the nuclear waste is sent their by train and 18 wheeler. So we have nuclear waste driving cross county along our interstates. Not a good idea.

The containers designed to carry the waste in have been tested with full speed freight train collisions. They hold up well. The size of the container belies the amount of waste inside of it. The container is huge for a small amount of depleted urainium.

Plus, the drivers who haul them are the cream of the crop, with at least a million miles of accident-free driving, and the trucks are escorted by police when driving near populated areas. Constant surveillance, GPS tracking etc., make hijacking or theft almost a moot point.

No one bats an eye at the amount of tanker trucks on the road hauling gasoline and heating oil, or the massive storage tank farms at refineries. These far outnumber the amount of containers hauling nuclear waste.

I'm sure you could find faults with the Yucca Mountain storage facility and the way the waste is brought to it, but it's like airplane travel-while the potential for disaster is greater then an auto accident, it's still a lot safer to fly then drive.

even if you consider storing nuclear waste in the mountain, wouldn't you want to store a small amount of it rather then depending almost fully on nuclear power? because from what i gathered for this debate was Obama wants to depend on solar & wind power as well as nuclear. however the only alternative source of energy mccain seemed to rely on was nuclear.

Oh yes, I agree with you there. I haven't seen much thought of "what do we do when Yucca Mountain is full"

But France seems to have a handle on it. I'd like to see more on what they do about their waste-there has to be a way to recycle it and reuse it.
I'm with you on nuclear power-it should not be the means to an end. I want a balanced power grid.

Nuclear reactors are swell for major populated areas that need a lot of energy. But there are a lot of areas of the country that wind farms and solar power can provide plenty of power for.

This was, I think, a mauling: a devastating and possibly electorally fatal debate for McCain. Even on Russia, he sounded a little out of it. I've watched a lot of debates and participated in many. I love debate and was trained as a boy in the British system to be a debater. I debated dozens of times at Oxofrd. All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don't really see how the McCain campaign survives this.

I owe you a beer.

I hold you to that at the inauguration.

You going to D.C. brother? I am just so my kids can see history being made in this country.

A reaction (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/10/live-blogging-n.html) from an interesting voice in Andrew Sullivan, a openly gay conservative:

I don't know if I'd go that far, but McCain did not win this. Therefore, Obama wins simply by continuing to ride the wave of consistancy all the way to November.

If McCain had done or said something memorable to create some kind of buzz about his campaign, that would have had them break even and would have stopped the hemorraging of votes resulting from the economic crisis we are in.
But he didn't. IMO, they kind of broke even. So Obama wins by default-the stronger candidate going into a debate that resulted in a tie.

Okay, now I'm pissed.

Carly Fiorina is on Fox schooling us dunderheads about how to fix the mortgage crisis.

I'm sorry but back when I lived in Kansas I worked for a company called Vanstar, and we did break/fix warranty work on Compaq equipment, which, IMO was the best shit on the market.

Carly came onto the HP scene and decided to have HP buy out Compaq and have a company that makes stellar servers go under the wing of a company that is known for making printers and over-priced inkjet cartridges with weird part numbers.

She's a dummy, and should be smacked by anyone who sees her.

This is the time where McCains hack decision to pick Palin, instead of a strong VP candidate REALLY hurts. A strong person that could held thier own, would have helped alot. But stupid Palin spends most of her time trying to sound folkish and likeable instead if reading up and actualy knowing what the fuck she is talking about. BIG BIG Backfire, in my opinion.

Your questions earlier are answered. Senator McCain indeed did use the phrase "That One".

so did my dad and stepmom. they found it as amusing and sad as i did.

and these are lifetime Republican voters who are pro-Obama in 08.
seems to be a common occurrence these days

I honestly think the only thing that will stop Obama in November at this point is the closet racism.

And that's coming from someone who adored McCain 8 years ago.

You put Obama in there. You make sure his cabinet is top notch.

A change is needed. PUT SOME SAM FUCKING COOKE ON.

Not all of it's in the closet. (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/1008082voter1.html?link=rssfeed) Fortunately, racists are fucking idiots.

As opposed to blatant ageism.
