I was running my AVG anti virus last night, and for some reason, it identified 42 files associated with Zone Alarm as being critical Trojan horses. Most of them were old set ups from previous updates. I let it get rid of them, and poof. I no longer had Zone Alarm!

I had to run Revo Uninstaller to get rid of leftover Zone Alarm files, before it would let me reinstall it. I reinstalled it, ran AVG again, and everything was fine. Why the fuck did that happen? I've had both AVG and Zone Alarm for a long time with no conflicts at all.

I'm not a fan of Zone Alarm generally. A hardware firewall in a router is much better, and blocking outgoing traffic really isn't all that important a thing to do.

Besides, Vista and later versions of XP have a firewall anyway.

The Windows firewall isn't that great from what I've heard. I have a firewall in my router, and Zone Alarm still catches stuff.

AVG is releasing an update to fix this problem. It's a bad virus definition file leading to false positives. Details here:

Thanks, bro! I haven't had the problem since the first one, though.
