GAZ - how is that [the quote above] even funny? It's one thing to make fun of Earl's idiocy, but outright racism is despicable. And I didn't even multi-quote the "only good one..." comment since it could have conceivably been about all babies to some people.

What is this line?
You were bothered by someone typing out an "igger" more than your "N". You had to have thought the dreaded word when you typed the single letter. Some people aren't hung up on other people throwing around words. Why should your sensibilities be imposed on everyone else?

but threads where people are being mean or racist or sick isn't surprising. "Ron & Fez" is a comedy show that sometimes goes into dark areas. The fans hear it on the radio and think they can achieve comedic success the way their radio heroes do. Of course, the R&F show (as well as O&A) consist of radio professionals and humorists who are more skilled to do comedy in that manner than "Long Island Joe Plumber" on a fansite.
But because I understand it, I don't get offended when people try. I don't really judge them for it...because i know they aren't professional funnymen. I just see it as it is. It's no big deal

Just curious why nobody is complaining about any of the jokes that Ron made on the subject.
like: "here's what happened, you gave a normal person weak sperm..."
and: "you said to me, 'weak sauce, I pounded her with weak sauce'..."
or this one: "there's nothing different between a miscarriage and an abortion,
so you my friend are technically an abortionist..."
or this: "you've had the funniest story so far..."
or this: "what's the funniest part of the story, you kicked the fetus ?"
also, Earl was laughing most of the time.
I guess my point is, why should people that post on a message-board be held
to a higher level than hosts of the show that they are commenting on.

it's the flow of today's show that makes me not take this subject very serious. I mean Earl reveals something so deep after people confess about jerking off at funerals or in siblings rooms... how could anyone believe he was telling a serious story?

well that goes from what i said earlier..Ron is a professional humorist and radio personality. He knows how to handle that situation
Its the same thing when...say someone on a messageboard's wife died. Then a poster writes something inappropriate. People call him an asshole, his response will always be "Hey..Jim Norton does jokes like that all the time! You can laugh at Lacey Peterson but not at this guy's own wife dying? HYPOCRITE!"
But its not..theres a reason why Ron is on the radio and messageboard posters are posting on the internet...you can't compare their comedic sensibilities
Also, remember when a messageboard poster threw a napkin dispenser at Eastside Dave's head and was defended on the "Messageboard round table" as "he was just imitating what Ron does when he throws a cowbell at Dave". Its not a defense...just because the radio personality does it on the radioshow that you are a fan of does not give you the right to act exactly like the radio personality.

I know what you're saying, but: ( I will address these point by point)
1.Ron's jokes were just as tasteless, and made directly to the person.
so who ever is "offended" by the posts here, should be equally offended by
Ron's jokes also.
2.the posts were directed at the same person as Ron's jokes were, Earl.
not a posters wife.
3.I've laughed just as hard at some people's posts, as I have at radio bits.
Just because people aren't getting paid to be comedians, doesn't make them any less funny...
4. I have no argument, that person couldn't separate a "bit" from reality.

my point was, Ron is the one with thousands of listeners and fan sites dedicated to him. He has real stakes for what he says and skill to know how to say it. "Midwest Jeff" does not. So if "Midwest Jeff" says something..the arguement of "well Ron says it" doesn't work because (i assume) Midwest Jeff does not have the talent or skill to have a nationally heard radio show with fansites dedicated to it

i still believe that people can try as much "outrageious humor" as possible and i don't think its a big deal if they go over a line...but i just don't buy the excuse of "Well you laugh when Ron does it" cuz I laugh when Ron does a lot of things. I laugh when Ron talks about baseball..i don't when my mom does. I laugh when Fez talks about his phobias, I don't when my coworker does

For the record, I'm not offended by any of it. My last post was a little unclear. I just don't find some of it all that funny. Granted, there are some topics I don't find much humor in that a deft comedian (not just Ron) can mine for gold. The problem has been re-hashed on here already, but people who aren't professional comedians sometimes push the shock and miss the boat on the humor part. Is it wrong? No. Is it inappropriate? Not for me to judge. Is it entertaining or funny to me? Not terribly. Of course there are some insanely funny people on this board who can hit it out of the park with so-called inappropriate topics. Before this delves any further into "how come he can talk about X but I can't talk about X". It's not about that really, at least I don't think it is. It's more about the self-policing that was referenced earlier. If people on this board think a comment on this board is racist or overly offensive without being humorous, I expect they'll let that person know. This isn't about censoring speech or defining clear boundaries.
Whatever. Need to eat.

I have this theory that comedy is about timing (I believe Im the first person to ever say that). Saying something "off the cuff" in the context of a radio show is 100% difft than typing it on a messageboard. Both can be very funny. But just because a joke works on the air doesnt make it work here. Not that I believe for a second that Earl ever impregnated a real life woman. Or that the show made any jokes as lame as some in this thread.

my point, which came from years of O&A messageboards, is that whenever the grey-line of "appropriateness" comes up and many people say "that isn't funny" and the defender goes "well Norton does it!" isn't an excuse
Norton has over 30 years of extreme focus on his comedic craft. For a messageboard poster to consider himself a comedic equal is offensively underestimation of Norton's talent

my point, which came from years of O&A messageboards, is that whenever the grey-line of "appropriateness" comes up and many people say "that isn't funny" and the defender goes "well Norton does it!" isn't an excuse
Norton has over 30 years of extreme focus on his comedic craft. For a messageboard poster to consider himself a comedic equal is offensively underestimation of Norton's talent
i just wrote the same thing in the FBA shelter
I think also people are willing to give a comedian more room to work a joke and also more willing to forgive them if it bombs. How many times has Mr.Norden flubbed a line and we've all laughed anyway? Non-comedians generally do not have that freedom of uh... "comedic movement" unless they earned it. Obviously there's the exceptional cases like Mr.Pat from Moonachie who is naturally funny and deserves all the room he can get heh muh heh

"offensiveness" is a weird emotion...i think most things that people find offensive are ridiculous and thats why i tend to laugh more then get offended myself
at my job, i have a private office but i have to use a public bathroom. In front of the urinal someone keeps drawing swatzikas and little portraits of Hitler. A lot of people would find that offensive..but i laugh because i imagine some fucking loser who thinks they are so cool cuz they are drawing faggy pictures of a funny mustached man.
Then, i noticed in the toilet stall that he wrote in marker "KKK All the way". Most people would find that offensive..but the fact that some angst-ridden teen is promoting such an embarrassingly pathetic organization like the KKK in 2008 in an attempt to freak everyone out makes me laugh. I laugh at this sad pathetic individual and his attempt at being something
so i guess its your attitude. When people are truly trying to be offensive, i tend to laugh at them instead of with them and i think thats a better attitude to have

I find marker scrawls in bathrooms funny. The best are the ones where someone says something offensive and some other guy in different colored ink writes "FUCK YOU DIE" and then there's another message from the OP that says "GET AIDS blah blah blah" then something obscure like "Turks suck"
Most recent one that cracked me up was "Islamic footbath" scrawled over a toilet at a gas station off the parkway.

I think if a comedian perfects his craft for years, he has to be funnier than the average joe.
Look at Carrot-top, Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the cable guy, Jeanine Garafalo, Kathy Griffin, Dave Coulier, Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia, Louie Anderson. God, the list goes on and on.
Seniority doesn't always = funny...

the funniest bathroom wall writing i saw was someone who wrote "Black People Smell" and then underneath it, in different penmanship wrote "they are stupid too" and then in different penmanship someone wrote "oh, c'mon!" Like the 3rd person was offended by the other two. I don't know why i found it funny..but i laughed out loud. Maybe the only reason i found it funny is because i'm a piece of shit. I dont know

How can you laugh at shows that make fun of people's misfortunes, and then be offended by message-board posts with the same dark humor. The best argument has been that if you get paid, and you've been doing it for a while, it's okay. but if you're an amateur, or unpaid, then it's offensive...

but with your point its like, a caller could never call the radioshow and not be funny. Any caller to the radioshow is going to hit
we aren't talking about posters that are writing funny stuff that everyone agrees is funny. if a guy was geniunely funny and dark..like Ron, Norton, Anthony blah blah blah..thats one thing
but even you have to admit a lot of callers call up and aren't funny. A lot of messageboard posters aren't funny.
the "Dead nigger baby storage"..it was an attempt to be a Pulp Fiction reference, but it really didn't work...like, yeah..i guess earl's baby would be a "dead nigger baby" but it wasn't well put together as a joke. it was awkward
so we talk about it
even Ron has yelled at callers when they through out the "nigger" word at Earl in a non-clever fashion
these radio shows aren't just about "laughing at peoples misfortune". its HOW we laugh at people's misfortunes. i think its an easy concept to understand. A dead person isn't funny. A funny person making something funny out of a dead person is.

It seemed to me that your point was: if a seasoned radio personality makes a dark joke, it's funny.
If an amatuer makes a dark joke it's offensive.
We all know that the pros get hate-mail from people about the things they say in jest.

People weren't complaining about the unfunniness of the jokes.

I was merely stating that if you are offended by the "subject matter" of the jokes,

yeah..i think complaining about "Subject matter" is just a harsher way to point out a joke didnt work. Like, an unfunny joke is an unfunny joke. If a joke was funny then people wouldnt complain about subject matter, cuz it was funny in the first place
And radio personalities can make unfunny jokes. I remember a discussion in the O&A section about how Anthony would play the bleep sound to equal "nigger" so gratuitously that it was just sad and annoying instead of funny. But the odds are, a radio professional with a huge fanbase will hit the mark with comedy more than a messageboard poster

not quite that far, though ive been to Manheim a ton and know how much that sucks. Where I was wasnt that far, thats why I was surprised it was so fuckin dead. I was in Bethlehem, which seems close enough to some bigger areas that it should be at least open
the good areas of Bethlehem are open... oh, and Easton is just 15 minutes away...
see, u just need to know where to look

there was a bar in the hotel next to ours that was open, but it was a club and had stopped serving food by then. I went out 22 another exit west and found a dunkin donuts that was CLOSED at 11:30 pm. I have never see a DD closed. Burger king next door was open but it seems a little odd to me to have to go like 4 miles to find a place to eat. Driving past cordfields all over and shit. Maybe i wasnt near that part of Bethlehem, I was by Bath i think. We played golf at Southmore golf course, and that was like 6 miles north or where I was. If that helps. I drove around all over the area within a few miles of the hotel and NOTHING was there
watch out for the cornfeilds, and he who walks behind the rows...

Stroudsburg was the birthplace of J,J, Newberry's.
Now it's just a good place to cop a 20 sack.

I dont think stroudsburg is that close to where I was at. Isnt that up off 80? I dont fuckin know. The wedding was in the Chapel at Mulenburg and then the reception was at some country club half hour away

yea it sucks so much being able to do anything you want, having a beach and SHIT TO DO. Not having to drive 30 min to get to a place to eat thats open after 10PM. Fuckin losers, doesn't anyone go out in that state?

Right. I got your point.
I think people can be funny without being professionals.
Seriously, Gaz seemingly is fucking obsessed with both radio shows to the extent that almost every post has something, some line tied into it. It's as if he can't talk without an XM tie in or crutch. Gaz is the BDC of XM radio and he prays with the Bennington Bible. Holy fuck dude, I love the shows too but you go WAY over the top. And I'm not just talking about this strange defense of yet another oddly angry/mean thread, but all throughout ronfez.net. Your ass-licking goes to levels not seen around here in years.

I loved the fact that Earl felt he "shut down" for a period of time. Yet, Ron didn't notice any difference in him.
Every week Earl uses his "I am just out of it today" excuse. He always sounds like he is white knuckling the board trying to avoid slipping into unconsciousness.
He claims he was going to get married and have the kid, but he didn't see the women for almost two months.
What can Ron offer Earl for a picture of this mystery woman?
FIRE EARL!

Baby Satchmo lives in a cigar box under Earl's bed and is very real.
