View Full Version : Ted Stevens: GUILTY!
Ted Stevens guilty on all charges! (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/washington/AP-StevensTrial.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)
Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens was convicted of seven corruption charges Monday in a trial that tainted the 40-year Senate career of Alaska's political patriarch.
The verdict, coming just days before Election Day, adds further uncertainty to a closely watched Senate race. Democrats hope to seize the once reliably Republican seat as part of their bid for a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.
Stevens, 84, was convicted of all seven charges he faced of lying about free home renovations and other gifts he received from a wealthy oil contractor. Jurors began deliberating Wednesday at noon.

Give Big Mike Gravel credit, he started the whole crazy scene back in '06.

Sean Parnell? It's too late to reframe that race. Consider the seat lost.
Now I hope that Stevens goes to jail and shares a cell with that scumbag James Traficant.

I find it shocking that the man who stood in the way of the heads of the Gas companies being sworn in when they were in front of congress would be corrupt. Shocked.
Hopefully someone fills his series of tubes.

Good.
It always pissed me off that one of the most under-reported case of cronieism of the Bush administration was that his daughter headed up U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Endangered Species Program - considering her father's record on the matter.

Not so fast!
According to Ted Stevens, he is innocent and has not been convicted of anything (http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/31/stevens.debate/?iref=mpstoryview).
"I'm not going to step down. I have not been convicted. I have a case pending against me, and probably the worse case of prosecutorial ... misconduct by the prosecutors that is known," Stevens said.

Could this be any better for the Dems? Please Senator Stevens....stay in the news!
Word has it that he's already dug an escape tunnel through one of the internet tubes, to an internet-free escape truck that will provide a speedy getaway.

When this is all said and done I'm sure Stevens will have paid a small price and having done no time. Just like the bail out guys - money-landering criminal scum.
Ted Stevens: UNELECTED. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27789536/)
Convicted Sen. Ted Stevens lost his re-election bid to Democrat Mark Begich on Tuesday after the last large batch of votes was counted.
The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday's count of about 24,000 absentee and contested ballots.
That's an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted.

58 now. Next up is the Georgia runoff. Then the Minnesota recount will be finished sometime in December.

You say that now, but when you're trying to get your personal internet through the tubes, but it's taking too long, because the tube god angrily smited all the big trucks carrying your internet through the tubes, and the only way to appease him is by offerings of pure crude that can only be obtained in the form of a 300 billion dollar subsidity to ravage the Alaskan nature preserve..
you'll be sorry.
Sadly, it's time to retire this:

The U.S. Justice Department filed a motion Wednesday to drop its case against former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, who was convicted of seven felony counts of corruption last fall.
this sounds so shady to me. they had him convicted, got his seat, now are dropping the charges?

When you are talking about "they" you are talking about the BUSH justice department. I don't think Bush was actively trying to toss that seat to the Democrats.

correct.
"they", referring to the justice dept.
correct.
"they", referring to the justice dept.
But...... they'd have no motivation to trump up false charges....... and "they" wouldn't be getting the seat.........
It seems far more likely there was a legitimate case that was bungled up so badly that even a Democratic administration with every reason to pursue it decided they could not.

It's the self-hating Republicans.
I must say that I'm quite proud of Ted Stevens being acquitted. The federal prosecutors broke the rules, and Senator Stevens has gotten all charges dropped. Kudos to Attorney General Eric Holder for making that call, despite whatever political bullshit may come his way for doing so.
It reminds me that our laws and rules matter, as they should.
