It’s been so long… but I remember as a small child the smells and sites and sounds of Halloween night. The smell of spiced apple cider, carving the pumpkin with my mom and listening to the old Philco radio, tooling around the dial until we heard the toasted voice of Sherwin Sleeves telling his annual Halloween Atoms, Motion and the Void episode. Even now, so many years later I remember mom telling me ‘Sleeves rocks the fat ass!’… well, like so many traditions, sadly, this one eventually faded away.

Last night, as my two young children and I started spreading out the newspapers and unpacking the power tools in preparation of carving our pumpkins, I flipped on the radio to find some carving music… and there it was, Sherwin’s gravely voice, as toasty as ever. As I smiled in the flood of childhood memories and started carving I turned to my children and said ‘Sleeves rocks the fat ass!’
