I fucking hated ER.
Then I learned he was a doctor himself.
And I still hated ER.

I really enjoyed JP, I don't think I've read anything else by him, except the Lost World sequal which sucked. But still sad, he was fairly young.

I've read and enjoyed Jurassic Park and The Terminal Man, but hated Lost World but couldn't get into The Andromeda Strain or The Great Train Robbery.
I did kind of enjoy hearing people talk about Timeline, but never actually picked it up.
Sad to hear that he's passed. Cancer sucks.

Never forget.
Let's roll.
We'll smoke those murdering dinosaurs out of their caves no matter where they are.

Jurassic Park was the first real novel I remember reading when I was in like 3rd grade. I also like Andromeda and Sphere. Not a huge fan, but didnt think he was bad. Poor fella.
I guess God needed someone to write average books that get turned into bad films (save for JP)

I disagree; the film version of Jurassic Park was horrific.

Prey was pretty good. Creighton was one of my go-to authors for escapist reading. He will be missed.
I am just wondering how soon till the inevitable posthumous works come out. Hell...there have been as many Bourne books released AFTER Ludlum's death as there were before he died.

He was a very good mainstream writer. Towards the end though, he started going batshit.
One journalist criticized his stance on global warming. He then appeared in crichton's next novel a man convicted of anally raping an infant.

I liked Eaters of the Dead, Terminal Man and Sphere. Loved the 1971 film adaptation of The Andromeda Strain as well. RIP.

I'll never forget where I was when I heard the disclosure of this information...I was waiting in the ER to get someone to check out my andromeda strain, looking out the window and seeing a woman who looked like a beast from the jurassic park her car.

Honestly, I think JP was one of the few summer blockbusters that lived up to the hype. The special effects were groundbreaking (particularly the T-Rex) and I'm not sure they've even been matched yet, 15 years later.

Grandma yelled at my father for asking if she wanted to go see the movie with him at the theatre, exclaiming that they killed children in the storyline. He kept leaving the theater during any scene with the kids.

JP was the first real novel I read as well. I think I was 10 or 11 I thought the sequel was pretty good too, but the second movie sucked it hard.

Notice how you're talking about the special effects and not the story.
I enjoyed the special effects and still find them stunning and enjoyable.
I never said I hated the special effects. I loved the special effects. It was like looking into both my deepest, darkest nightmares as a small child and living the fantasy of actually walking with dinosaurs all at once. That's positively thrilling for someone who's been a dinosaur nut since they can remember ... like me. Every time the "Dinosaurs Alive!" show tours the arenas in my area, I want to go and see it and I could spend all day in the AMNH's dino galleries. Even on a rainy Saturday.
I just thought that the film adaptation of the story could've been a lot more engrossing ... and less "touchy-feely." Hell, I could've lived with the flip-flopping of the kids' ages and the "romantic relationship" between Grant and Sattler (which wasn't even implied in the book) if the story had been done justice. It wasn't.
