Great show, though it goes pretty bonkers and insane the last couple of seasons. It's worth watching through to the end due to the great cast even when the plots totally go off the track.

If you have any aversion to male frontal nudity, you better be nervous. There's a lotta schlong, and most of it is huge and threatening.

and wtf happened to my generation kill?

It was only a 7 episode miniseries and it ended months ago.

Oz was great. Like Mojo said, it got a little wacky towards the end (maxim death row photo shoot?) but its excellent. the first two-three seasons were intense.

The man-man kissing parts bothered me more than the cock parts.

Remember to use spoilers since this thread is being started by someone who hasn't seen the show:

It's pretty easy to spot the show's shark jumping point...Adibisi being killed was epic, but the show just wasn't same afterwards. Said's death was kind of like a secondary jump just because it was so anti-climactic. The fakeout of Beecher getting released was a dick move, and they fucked up one of the most powerful moments of the series, Cyril's execution, by needlessly doing it twice with the brief stay of execution.

Dumbest storylines? I thought the "aging pill" thing was stupid...prisoners do volunteer for medical experimentation al the time, ad I wasn't even that bugged that they were aging, but more that it was fixed so easily with a magical antidote. There was ultimately no point to the storyline.

Worst for me was the storyline with the Chinese refugees. I can buy that they had to be housed at the prison while their status was worked out, but they would have been totally seperated from the prisoners. It was so dumb that they were just mingling at all times with the prisoners. They would have either temporarily emptied Em Ciy of prisoners and used it for the refugees or housed the refugees in the gym and only let the prisoners use the gym when the refugees were elsewhere.

It was also pretty weak how they went kill crazy in the final season and seemingly wanted to kill off everyone. The warden being killed was especially dumb and pointless.

Don't get me wrong, I love this show and the ensemble cast was amazing even with the shittiest of storylines, but it was definitely ready to go when the show wrapped up.

Agree with everything Mojo said.

I also thought killing Beecher's dad was kinda silly too. And the whole thing with Luke Perry going all Obi-Wan and appearing after he died and that red-head kid being the devil was kinda lame also. I didnt like the killing of Augustus either.

Nothing I really wrote earlier really spoiler anything, just to let the fella who just started watching know.

i caught on to the show really late. it was already off the air but had started re-airing on demand & i was able to catch it from the beginning. i would watch all 4 episodes in one night then wait impatiently for the next 4 episodes to be available. it was a really really great show & i'm pissed at myself for catching on so late because i didn't have anyone to talk to & freak out with when things happened.

Yup, agreed. I got that the stuff between Beecher and the Aryans was intense, but they went so nuts with it. It made no sense that Beecher really only went crazy becase he got butt raped, but having his arms and legs broken, his kids kidnapped with one murdered and then his father killed he kept a level head. It was really just the dad thing that was the breaking point...OK, we get it, this is just overkill. And a prisoner's father is just going to be wandering a long empty hallway where other prisoners are? Oh, OK. The shit with his kids I get...that was when him vs. Schillinger was at its peak, and it led to some amazing TV, like Beecher fucking with Schillinger's kid and Beecher and Schillinger actualy comping to a (temporary) reconciliation. That scene was just amazingly powerful.

I thought Luke Perry did a great job on the show, but I agree his storyline was just kind of farted away. Him being sealed in the wall was going to be one the best all time deaths on the show, but then they had to have him live on as a charbroiled vegetable. I liked the kid (Timmy?) going nuts and thinking he was seeing things and was posessed, but then it just ended anti-climactially and nothing made sense, plus it had Hoyt seeing the visions of Cloutier, which was just goofy. He was somehow kidnapped out of the hospital and put in the wall again by the bikers? Guh? So weak. And then Hoyt was killed for ratting that out. Also weak.

Hoyt was my favorite guy in the show cause he is the dude from Biohazard. I think by the time Beecher's dad got killed he was supposed to just be so worn down by all the drama with Schillinger that he was almost numb to it. It was such overkill. The shit with their kids was great though, when Beecher turned Verne's son (Andrew?) and he had to give his kid the bad dope to kill him, it really was intense. I think he bugged out more when he got raped cause it was traumatic to him, and O'Reilly got his all dusted up (right?) but again, shitting on Schillinger's face remains one of my all-time favorite TV moments. There are so many good little side stories too. Like when the dentist gave Roybson black man gums and he got the boot from the brotherhood.

I love the first 4 seasons and still enjoy the last two decently enough, even though they are weaker. However, to enjoy the show you really need to have a high tolerance for gay material and an even higher suspension of disbelief. How much of what happened could have been stopped had there been security cameras?

It is kind of funny to watch the show evolve. It started off with most of the sex being implied and the few deaths being done realistically. By the end there was more gore than some slasher films and there were a couple scenes that were a shot or two away from being hardcore porn.

The face-shitting scene was one of those "HOLY FUCK, DID THAT JUST HAPPEN" moments. Then they top it couple episode slater by having Beecher bite the fucking tip off of Robson's schlong...AND THEN FUCKING SPIT IT OUT IN FRONT OF US.

Poor Robson...one word when it comes to him: SPOON.

I actualy thought the violence got less gory as time went on and became more cartoony. The really graphic violence tends to be in the first 3 seasons...

I don't think anything tops seeing the CO with his eyes carved out by Alvarez.

It's probably the 'Psycho' factor where they showed less in the early seasons so it seemed more effective.

Still, I thought two of the more disturbing moments featured Robson in the 5th season. One was him and another Aryan cutting up a Muslim and him trying to cut out his own gums.

Does anyone else think Alvarez had the worst character arc out of anyone on the show? The first few seasons were great but around season 4 it just got in to a constant cycle of him being in solitary, trying to redeem himself, getting let out but the other Hispanics don't trust him, going back to solitary.

The show did go down hill after Adebisi got killed, but had he stuck around I think he would have fallen in to the same trap.

Yeah, they clearly didn't know what to do with Alvarez after they had written him into a corner, but they didn't wat to waste having a good actor like Acavedo. Tom Fontana talked about how it seemed like his career was taking off and he was less ad less available, so they all but wrote the character out, but then things ended up with Acavedo having the time to play Alavarez, so it kinda left the writers with few options.

I loved that Luis Guzman was El Sid. He rules.
