Just wondering if anybody else finds this band as engaging and sweet sounding as I do. I heard them not too terribly long ago on a xm special, and now I can't get enough.

Rich check out all their albums but they do get a little poppier as they go on and kind of get away from their bluegrass roots.

Chris Thile the mandolin player is regarded as one of the best mandolin players in the world, and David Grisman and Mike Marshall have both stated he is light years beyond what anyone else can do with a mandolin.

Sean Watkins is the guitar player and he is an amazing flatpicking player.

Sara Watkins is the fiddle/violin player and she is also great and has an amazing voice.

Mind you Sara and Chris are under 30 and Sean is 31.

I love this band and am very sad they decided to call it quits as a band and just do their solo stuff. I guess being a band from the time you are 8 till last year takes its toll on you. from 1989 till 2007 they had amazing shows and I loved every one I went to.

Glen Philips is not part of the band. He just contributes once in awhile, they formed a band with him called Mutual Admiration Society.

I'm a real big fan of the mandolin in rock music ever since the first time I heard it when I was 12 on "Out of Time", which was the first album I ever bought and still ranks in my top 10 of all time.

Rocking the Creek again. I haven't turned this double album off in a week, and even more amazing a quick scan of this thread has shown me that the mojo pin and I have more in common than I thought. Cheers budday.

Be sure to check out Fiction Family (http://www.fictionfamily.com/), which is Sean Watkins from Nickel Creek and Jon Foreman from Switchfoot. Good stuff.

He's not. I heard something with him singing with nickel creek and thought he was the lead singer until I realized.

I had no interest until this. I'll go have a listen.

Update: I did not enjoy this music.

Check out Chris Thile's Deceiver album. Amazing stuff.

And Chris also formed a new band, Punch Brothers, which has some awesome stuff out, though not quite as excellent as his Nickel Creek catalog.

Have you ever checked out the Alt Country thread here, WMT?

Chris Thile kicks ass. Here's my contribution to the interweb with a short video from the 2006 Northwest String Summit in Oregon hosted by Yonder Mountain String Band. Chris is in the white shirt :smoke:
