I certainly see it. Not a day has passed when I hear something along those lines, and from people I'd never expect it. Just today I asked a black woman why she has been so distant lately and she wrote (I hope jokingly because she laughed) "I do not like white people" on a post it and showed it to me then she crushed it up and threw it away. I laughed too, but wondered what would have happened it the tables were turned. I have no bad feelings, but I think anyone can have a slight racial streak in them, white or black. I think there should be an opening up among and a dialog, since this is a significant event in terms of equality.

I have had friends and relatives send me racist 'joke' e-mails that have pissed me off but I'm glad it gave me an opportunity to tell them to fuck off. There is one in particular where I work who has all the features of Indian/Asian/Middle Eastern/whatever, but the voice and accent of your average American. I can't even talk to her because when she speaks, I am enamored to the point of not even hearing what she says.

My friend (white) and his wife (black) said a few weeks ago that nobody even stares anymore, versus when we were HS aged. My first gf and the love of my life is hispanic and we never got shit from any one except her dad was cautious at first.

WE do have a bit of work to do regarding gays. I have no problem with them, many in the health care field were gay, I had gay managers, bosses, etc. and it never bothered me. Texas is isolated from much of the country and we tend to do very well when it comes to progression.

You are right about small towns though; where my property is we were told in a land owner's meeting to call the sheriff if we saw any blacks on our road because they did not belong there. Yet, there is a black couple who own 6-10 acres just east of my place, just sad in my opinion.

Down here, there is not much of it. We all grew up together and get along very well. When I was in college, I had a professor from New York and he said that it was really not as rampant as in the north. He said it was actually "refreshing" to be in South Louisiana because of that aspect.

Tape shows beating on bus of Belleville West student

BELLEVILLE — A Belleville West High School student was beaten aboard a bus on the way to school Monday, and a police spokesman said the beating could be racially motivated.

The 17-year-old victim was white and the teen assailants were black. Police released a video of the beating, which shows the victim being punched repeatedly while other students on the bus gather to watch, some cheering. It doesn't appear that the victim did anything to provoke an attack and tried only to defend himself. Police said it all unfolded in a five-minute span.

Funny. That shit happens on buses in Philly all the time and it never makes the news. I remember once a kid got chased onto the bus as it was pulling away and they were jumping and grabbing the windows and hanging on the bus as its driving down the street.

The news report gives so little information on the issue. The police must have a reason for thinking it's racially motivated, though.

Also, this is why I'm against hate crime laws. Who cares what the reasons were? This should be treated like a vicious attack whether the motivation was race, or anything else.

I'm curious because you are seeing this were you have traveled and you mention IN among other areas and I spent my formulative years there and still do business there from PA. Are you looking at metro areas where more people of different backgrounds are more likely to be? Or is this suburb towns and/or rural areas? In NY I was in the city just monitoring the cable db levels everywhere and I have to say its not nearly as violent as people were thinking, my work was telling me to be careful as did my family but it was fine, Miami was a lot worse, we had to be out of the area 45 mins before scheduled sunset and it was mandatory. I was in evansville, in and it was not too bad but there was tension but not nearly as bad as when I had to work in richmond, va and louisville, ky.

Police busted Lionel McIntyre, 59, for assault yesterday after his bruised victim, Camille Davis, filed charges.
