thanks to all for your sentiments
Its not the economy, just mis appropiation of funds from 2 people a now in trouble with the law
dont buy a company, if you dont have the capital
also dont use clients money to pay for other things besides the cruise
I am so happy all people here and my family have nothing booked its gonna get ugly
people are out thousands, cruises havent been paid for dec and jan , I feel awful
I have a client list, and many awards, and honors I hopefully should bounce right back

Yeah. Thank goodness I'll be done with school this summer and can hopefully jump into the education field or a federal job.
I'm real nervous right now. Granted, there's ideally a light at the end of the tunnel, but the next 8 or 9 months will be brutal if I get the axe.

I'm guessing you can pick up a gig to tide you over until school is done. Just to pay the rent, beer and Raamin Noodles.
Have you started lining up prospective interviews and such? Now would be a good time. You could be picked up even before you are done.
Good luck.

Ideally. I don't want to sidetrack from Hippo much more, but the long and short of it is my store is closing due to the landlord opting to not renew the lease. The company originally said months ago, through our district manager and then store manager, that ayone in good standing with the store would have a job at another location. Well, that has suddenly turned into the DM "never said that" (even though she told our manager that twice) and now the company is using a legal loophole to divest itself of some "deadweight." Sounds like someone fucked up huge, and I won't be surprised if some of the people getting the boot try to rase a stink legally since this deprived us of months to start planning and looking for another job. I'm hoping I stay on since I'm crosstrained everywhere, but with likely about 70% of the staff (including managers) getting the axe, I'm holding my breath. There's little chance I find anything that pays close to what I'm making now with the schedule flexibility I need for school plus, the big reason I'm still with them, the amazing health benefits.

You live anywhere near Livingston NJ? Or can get there? My company is always looking for talent, especially in sales. I'll PM you the number and address for that office.

KHB - I'm sorry about your job loss.
I would highly, highly recommend you retract the offer on the house due to what happened. You won't be able to the secure financing on the house even if you get a new job tomorrow because you're only have a few months on the new job (unless your wife works too, your best bet is to talk to the bank and see what can be done) and you don't want to see all the earnest money, attorney review fees, inspection, etc. flushed because of it.
If your wife works, I would recommend not taking COBRA until you see if this is a qualifying event and you can get in on her health insurance. COBRA is extremely expensive.
Also, set up direct deposit with unemployment. It makes the process easy.

that sucks. but don't think of going on unemployment as "mooching." you pay into that, so you are entitled to take it out when you need it.
if it makes you feel any better, I got laid off on April Fool's day a few years ago. I really thought it was a joke when I got called into the conference room, with the 3 other guys they had to let go.

Jeez Louise, this sucks King Hippo dick!!
I hope you find something soon..Although you could always go back on the Extreme Competitive Eating circuit with Stuguts but you'll probably have to be a "baby face" this time because no one really bought the whole "I'm KHB and I'm a bad ass from Staten Island" thing..
Everyone knows, 4 words that don't even belong in the same dictionary are bad ass and Staten Island..
And btw, don't feel like a mooch for collecting unemployment benifits and/or any other benifits due you..
Pesonally I hope they base your payments on the amount of posts you've made here over your career and not how much actual, real world productivity you've generated because it's gonna take like a fuckin G a week in foodstamps just to cover your bagle habit..
Best of luck Jeff..And just know that I will be praying for you and your's..Plus, who knows???
This could work out better and cheaper then any fad diet or stomach stapling you might have been looking into..

better news
went to another cruise broker in CT
they were salivating to hire me
smaller company , but better pay plan
and I can work from home a good 75% of the time
I will go over the contract and most likely will sign it
too bad I will lose a good 70% of my client base, was only able to save a small portion of contact info from the past
I would have had no clients if the company did not go under, i signed a non compete clause

You may want to start grabbing your old client info. Apparently there are a lot of people who are without cruises and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office is opening up an investigation that your place was scamming people.
It's on the front page of the Home News Tribune today.
