Okay, this is a little gross so you may not want to read the below.
Still here?
How does a mouse get into a closed toilet? I wake up this morning, sleep deprived because my kids have been keeping us up. I go downstairs with our youngest, go to our half bathroom, turn on the light, pull up the toilet cover and see a mouse in the water, trying to climb the side of the bowl. Now,, I'm 85% sure the cover was closed but I was so tired, I'm not sure. I think if the cover wasn't down, I would have sat right down without looking.
We have a septic tank, but other than that, I have no plumbing knowledge to explain this and it freaks me out.
Thank god my wife didn't find it or she would have left me right then and there.

Went swimming. Happened to me when I was younger. I remember going in, and there being a big rat in the terlit.
They can come up the pipes. Always keep your toilet seat closed.

it probably climbed up and fell in. if it was a small one, it could have easily fit between the closed seat.
so what did you do?

I grabbed some grill tongs, grabbed the fucker, threw it in a bag, and then threw the fucker outside. I had to take a dump but that scared the crap right back into me.
And I think it was too big to fit in under the seat. We're out in the woods, so maybe it got in through the pipes.

so what did you do?I would have released my hefty morning piss right in its stupid little face and watch him spin uncontrollably as the terlit water flushes down the drain.

I thought it was dead, but saw it move after throwing it outside. I think the tongs did some internal damage though.

I was watching something on Discovery, I think, about this. Mice and Rats apparently swim from the sewers into toilet bowls with relative ease and regularity.

Oh, and Eli.....if there is one, and it didn't climb up through the pipes, then there may be more. I would suggest you go buy some T-Rex Traps (http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/trextrapperkit.htm), and set them up around your basement/outside your house/attic. Ya never know.
I spotted a mouse in my kitchen a few months ago, it came up through the floorboard under my sink. I didn't see it before, because I have a wood panel in there. I placed some traps, and ended up killed 6 small mice just like that one. One was even killed in one of my drawers. I haven't had a problem since.

Mice have very disarticulating skeletons. They are able to sneek through the tiniest of openings like a closed toilet lid is easy . I live in the country and battle mice infestation every year. As someone said one mouse means a bunch. Mastershield should be your next call.

I'll be getting some traps today for the basement and the attic.
Last time we had a mouse was last spring and we saw one in the middle of our room. Didn't see one again all summer until this morning.

I went back and looked at the space between the seat and toilet. It was miniscule. I know mice can squeeze into small openings, and have seen them do it, but this was too small.
I called my dad who owns an excavating business and installs septic tanks, etc. He said that mice or even squirrels can get in that way. He says it doesn't happen that often, because they have to be really lucky to get through the pipes and find the toilet.

Yeah, I'd rather have mice in the house.
We're going to get a dog in a couple of years. We'll have to hold down the fort with traps until then.

Like I said, always keep your toilet seat down.Taking a crap with the seat down has gotta suck really bad..
Mice have very disarticulating skeletons. What the fuck kinda word is this!?!
I thought we were a "fart joke" web site?
Better than traps:
http://www.catfacts.org/cat-picture-full.jpgBut can a cat tread water long enough to be an effective alternative to non living mouse traps?
I would expect that the cat would probably drown between pisses but I'll give it a go..
Thanks for the advice, I think..

This opening appeared to be smaller than the mouse's head.

How will you ever be able to relax on the potty again? I'd be concerned about your colon health! Make sure you have plenty of fiber.
P.S. My parents have an outside cat, and just having him outside around the house helps to keep the mice away.
