Mitch Mitchell was the first drummer I remember really admiring. The first time I heard "Fire" by Hendrix and the Experience I was astounded by the drumming; it was about the coolest I had ever heard.

I was really young (like, single-digit age), but I still remember the feeling and how hearing that drum work made me think differently about what music was or could be. I went from 'Ring Around the Rosie' to Rock fan on that day.

R.I.P. Mr. Mitchell - IMO you were great!

What a shock. I have always have been a big fan of is drumming. I also remember hearing 'Fire' for the first time as a kid and how much I immediately loved the drums. He was always interesting to listen to. RIP.

This is easily today's ichiban. I always thought he never received the praise and credit that he should have. Moon is the only other rock drummer who could hold a candle to Elvin Jones and the other jazz greats.
