Love the Space Shuttle, but at this point it feels like some dude puttering around in an '87 Ford Tempo, hoping to hell that it starts every time he puts the key in the ignition.

That's how the whole space program has become; it's so oddly half-assed now. We don't want to get rid of it entirely, but we don't seem to want to get serious about improving it.
